Amish Cup Cheese ' Spreading Cheese'

"This "shmear kase" (smear cheese if translated literally) is an Amish recipe in this area. This is served at Amish weddings and church dinners - and of course in many homes year-round! It is generally eaten on bread or toast, and often topped with jelly. ENJOY!"

  1. This was good - kind of like a home-made version of Cheeze Whiz. I only made 1/5 of the recipe as there are only 2 people in my house! I added 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder for a little extra flavor. Seems like a good thing to have around for snacks. I personally might reduce the amount of liquid a bit next time ( i used 3/4 cup water and 3/4 cup milk to 1 pound of cheese), as the mixture remained slightly liquidy after refrigerating overnight, and I was hoping for something a bit firmer - mine had a hard time staying put once I spread it on the bread ;) But that's just my preference. A solid, easy recipe.
