When I was a bartender people always commented that I made the best mixed drinks. One of my requested mixed drinks was my version of the Amaretto Sour. My “secret” was the addition of 7-Up which I think gave the drink a gentle fizz that broke up the syrupy sweetness of the drink. I usually made my own sour mix, which was nothing more then Country Time Lemonade (another “secret”) or would mix lemon juice with some granulated sugar -- and shake vigorously. You can also use store bought sour mix.
- 1 1⁄2 ounces carbonated lemon-lime beverage (I use 7-Up)
- 3 ounces Amaretto
- 2 ounces sour mix (or 1 1/2 ounces lemon juice with granulated sugar)
- 2 orange slices, garnish
- 1 maraschino cherry
- Pour ingredients into a shaker filled with ice or into a glass that a smaller glass can fit into and shake.
- Strain into a highball glass and squeeze the juice from one orange slice into the drink and garnish with the other orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
Oh, this is my new favorite cocktail! Made this with homemade Amaretto Almond Liqueur. I didn't have sour mix, but that's a good thing. Used just lemon juice and that was helpful because it cut the sweetness of the 7up and the amaretto. Thanks for posting!
I served this at our neighborhood Christmas party -- everyone lived it!
YUM!! I loved this... thank you for sharing!
