Delicious cake however, I found that we liked the glaze better with the rum cooked WITH the butter, water and sugar rather than adding it at the end. It gave the syrup a wonderful flavor. Adding the rum at the end just tasted too....raw. Thank you!

Sign in or create an accountMade this for Christmas with good family reviews. I also tryed a individual 6 count, small bundt pan for smaller cakes. The recipe makes about 14 smaller bundt cakes if using the 6 count, small bundt pans. The kicker here the smaller cakes are terrific for individual gifts and are absolutly fantastic with hot coffee.

AMAZING! I get rave reviews from everyone who tastes it and it is soooo easy! Easy way to look like a PRO! I use a yellow or butter cake mix instead of the basic and you can interchage the puddings. Pistachio, banana and french vanilla have been awesome. Also, you can make MORE glaze if you like to put on top and bottom. Cake needs to sit overnight if possible. Thank you for this recipe!

I never liked rum cake because it usually tastes like someone just poured an entire bottle of booze over it. This one is different. It tastes heavenly! I substituted Cruzan Vanilla Rum, Banana Cream pudding mix and pecans instead of what's called for. EVERYONE will be asking for this recipe. Make it for Thanksgiving and enjoy the compliments.

This cake is the best cake I have ever cooked or tasted for that matter. My family always begs me to cook this when we all get together for the holidays. I will sometimes change the flavor of the pudding mix to slighly change the taste of the cake, for instance, I have used a chocolate pudding mix and even a key lime pudding mix instead of the vanilla flavored pudding mix, YUMMY!!!!!

Thank you for this recipe. I, too, have fallen in love with the Tortuga Rum Cakes ever since a relative of mine brought back some from her trip to the Cayman Islands. This recipe is spot on. I didn't change a thing. Except that I was lucky enough to locate some REAL Tortuga Banana Rum at Bevmo so I made a Tortuga Banana Rum Cake. It was delicious. Everyone said it tasted like the real thing. Thank you thank you for this wonderful recipe. God bless:-)

Very nice! I used Cake Flour Substitute as a substitute for Cake Flour, I also used Trader Vic rum. I added Macadamia Nuts instead of walnuts, and I added some shredded coconut flakes into the batter. After all that, I topped it with french vanilla pudding. It was still delicious! Thank you for posting!!!

I think this might be the best cake I've ever made! Initially seeing the 3 parts of the recipe looked complicated but it was really easy. I didn't have cake flour so I made my own by using 3/4 cup of all purpose flour and 1/4 of corn starch. The only Vanilla rum I found was Cruzan and it worked out well. I sprayed the cake pan with Pam and was afraid the cake wouldn't come out of the pan but it did with a little help and some prayers! Everyone LOVED the cake. Try this recipe, you won't be sorry. Thanks for the recipe.

I've used this recipe about half a dozen times in the past 4 years to make this rum cake. I ALWAYS get rave reviews when I make it. The first time was at a cookout and everyone there was hesitant to try it at first, I think they tried it to be nice. That was until they actually ate it. I had 5 people request the recipe and one who invited me over the next weekend to make it with her. I took it to work for a Christmas party and it was gone in 20 minutes. This is by far the best recipe out there for this rum cake, and it tastes as good, if not better, then the original. Thank you again, I'm about to make another one tomorrow!

I am not a chef by any means but love to cook for friends and family. I had this cake page bookmarked for the last 6 months waiting for our yearly Fire Department cake sale. The cake sale is a once a year event where funds are raised to purchase equipment for our volunteer fire fighters. Anyway, Deb was not sure that I should try a new recipe and sell it to someone until we tried it ourselves. I made this cake Thursday night which we enjoyed with family/friends on Friday night I made another which was auctioned off Saturday night at the fire station. Everyone who we shared our cake with LOVED IT ! If you follow the directions, you can't miss! The cake sold for 250.00!

This has got to be the BEST recipe here. I've made this cake a few times and have received nothing by raves. The only change I made was I did not use cake flour; instead, I used 1 3/4c AP flour and 1/4c corn starch.
INCREDIBLE!!!

22 Minutes...that's how long it took for this to disappear. I used Myer's Rum as well, and mixed 1/2 cup finely ground walnuts into the cake itself...otherwise, I made it as directed...they loved it. Wonderful recipe!

Try it once and you will be hooked! No other rum cake recipe can come close to this one. I made my first cake three days ago and it dissapeared so quick that I had to make another one today so I could share it with more of my friends. I want to try this recipe with different liquors and pudding mixes. Thank you kindly for this over the top recipe.

We have a timeshare on Cayman Island. We go to the Tortuga Rum Factory often for lunch. As a part of their combo you get a piece of rum cake. This was so close. I used Tortuga Banana Rum in the cake and plain rum for the syrup. A very moist cake! I made it for Super Bowl Sunday and it was definately a hit!!

This cake is soooo yummy. just make it and eat it. you will love it. In the Minneapolis area, Surdyks Liquor carries Tortuga Rum. It is worth the trip to go get some, it is a nice sweet warm rum...

If there was a 10 star rating on this site, that's what I would give it. I did the exact same thing
as Heart N Soul did, every time we go to the caribbean, I get one of the Tortuga Rum Cakes, and like her I thought it was the best cake ever. I also looked at ordering the cakes on line, but it is extremely expensive, so I had a brain wave and decided to look on this site for TORTUGA RUM CAKE, and low and behold there it was. Thank you so much for this recipe, it is the best. I have to go, just took my rum cake out of the oven and have to bathe it in that delicious Rum Syrup. MMMMMMM. I don't care how many calories it is.
Hear N Soul, you have made this girl a very happy woman. Now I don't have to wait to go to
the Islands to get my favorite cake.
