Fabulous family meal adapted from a 2003 issue of Super Food Ideas - i double it when my children bring friends home for dinner.

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. Heat oil in large pot.
  2. Saute onion till tender.
  3. Add mince and brown well, breaking up lumps.
  4. Stir in sauce, mushrooms, wine and seasonings.
  5. Bring to the boil.
  6. Reduce heat and stir in pasta.
  7. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  8. Serve with grated cheese.

This is just an excellent every day meal! Quick, delish, filling and made from ingredients that you generally have around. I added 3 cloves of garlic and used a home made pasta sauce that I had in the freezer. I increased the pasta to 3 cups instead of 1 1/2 cup. Thanks for sharing, I will be making this again!

Loved this treat of a recipe! It's similar to my usual bolognese recipe- I always use chopped tomatoes rather than spaghetti sauce to cut out a few calories. But the great thing about this recipe is that adding the pasta to the sauce before cooking means that the extra "juice" you get from using chopped tomatoes is absorbed to leave a rich, thick sauce. I covered the pan while it cooked and added 1/2 cup water partway through cooking (in addition to the wine) as it was looking dry. Thanks for a super recipe!

Me and DH love bolognese sauce. I used 1 large onion, lean ground beef, diced tomatoes in can, 8 ounces of fresh mushrooms sliced and red wine of course LOL I didn't add seasoning. It was perfect like that. We ate it with penne pasta. Thanks Kate :) Made for Holiday tag
