Plum Barbecue Sauce

"from Cooking Light, this zesty sauce can be brushed over food after it's cooked or during the last minute or two of cook time. Serve with grilled chicken, pork tenderloin or burgers. Or add to a slow cooker with pork or beef roast. Smoky chipotle chile powder is a fine substitute for smoked paprika."

  1. Lovely sauce. I added a bit of bourbon in the sauce too. Yum. I used it to cook chicken wings and mashed potatoes and it went lovely. I doubled the recipe since I had so many plums to use up. Thanks for sharing the recipe

  2. It was a little too "ketchupy" for my taste and this could have been because the plums were not the most flavorful (Costco).

  3. We loved this BBQ sauce! The plums give it a nice fruity taste without being overly sweet; the maple syrup is just the right touch. Used this on some baby back ribs that we had smoked with a spicy chipotle rub and it was a perfect pairing. Thanks for sharing your recipe! Made for Spring Pick-A-Chef 2012

  4. One of the nice things about living where I do is that, for a price, I'm able to get most any fruit or vegetable unless it has an outrageously brief season! And so the plums were not a problem! I really enjoyed making this gem of a sauce & think the maple syrup added a nice touch. I initiated its use on some chicken breasts for an outstanding main course, & the next time around it'll be on some pork chops! Thanks for sharing the recipe! Tweaks

  1. I added a dash of Port wine and a couple of tablespoons of good bourbon along with two star anise pods ( I simmered the sauce for at least 45 minutes) , a little more maple syrup, a dash of soy sauce, a teaspoon of ground ginger and then microplaned a Meyer lemon and added a quarter of the juice into the sauce until I could taste plum through the tomato.
