Reviews

  1. Very smooth and fairly mild taste- next time I think I will take some others' advice and add some garlic and cilantro for a little more flavor. UPDATE: I have added about 1 T lime juice, 1/3 garlic clove, and 1 tsp dried cilantro & it makes a HUGE difference in flavor! I truly love this salsa now- so easy to make with what you have & GREAT taste!!!

  2. This was so easy and good. I did add half a lime juiced and a handful of cilantro. After a few hours in the fridg it was very delicious.

  3. This is extremely close to Chili's salsa. This is a "no cooking" salsa but is fresh salsa so that might explain some of the low ratings. The first time I made it I followed the recipe and used canned tomatoes and thought it was good. I also added some black pepper and it gave it some extra flavor. Make sure you chill it well before serving. <br/>2nd time I made it, I used fresh tomatoes (blanched and peeled the skin) from the garden instead of the can of whole tomatoes. Used fresh jalapenos and cilantro. Much better the 2nd time with the fresh homegrown tomatoes (this is key to a better flavor for those who didn't like.). Tomatoes from your garden or vine ripened tomatoes are key to a better flavor for those who didn't like it. Canned tomatoes (in my opinion) are better for cooking.

  4. It didn't taste exactly like Chili's salsa to me;........but really really good none the less!!!! I have made it a few times already.

  5. Loved this recipe. I've made it quite a few times now. This last time I used 1 fresh jalapeno (without seeds) and truvea instead of sugar. Yum

Tweaks

  1. DEFINITELY needs some lime juice, about 2-3 T, and some cilantro. I love cilantro and use quite a bit, but add to taste

  2. Followed everyone's instructions and added some garlic (I used about 3/4 teaspoon minced), lime juice (just squeezed in an amount I thought looked good) and cilantro (dried, just kind of eyed it but maybe 2 teaspoons). I didn't have any peppers, so I used about a teaspoon or two of chili powder instead. Pulsed and it tasted good, but missing something. Added balsamic vinegar (I don't know why...I just did), pulsed it again, and it was even better.

  3. This is a great salsa recipe for those, like myself, who don't like chunky salsa. I have made quite a few "upgrades" to the recipe but feel like I have now perfected my recipe. First I should say, as much as I try, I can't get this to taste the same with fresh tomatoes, most people I had try both batches actually preferred the canned tomato version versus the fresh tomato version. As for my alterations, I use a can of Del Monte Diced Tomatoes with Zesty Jalepenos instead of using a can with diced green chilies, I typically use one full fresh jalepeno (depending on how big they are) sliced but not de-seeded and 2 cloves of garlic instead of the garlic salt. I then just throw the onion half (cut up into two or three pieces) in my Vitamix, followed but the garlic and jalepeno, whole tomatoes and then the diced tomatoes on top and, lastly, the cumin, salt and sugar on top. I then just turn on the Vitamix, turn the dial between 3-6 sometimes higher when the onion doesn't seem to want to chop up. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours (THIS COULDN'T BE MORE IMPORTANT!) and it's ready to eat. Every time I bring this with me to work I have to bring in separate containers for certain people to take home because they love it so much. I'm going to try my hand at canning the salsa just the way it is and see if it work.

  4. As other reviewers, added 1 tablespoon of lime juice (fresh) and 1 tablespoon of dried cilantro (all I had available) ~ great!

  5. This has been in our fridge almost constantly for the last six months--it is wonderful! We like it better than the salsa you get when you GO to Chili's. LOL We definitely like it better after it has been in the fridge for a day or two, so I always try to plan ahead with this. VARIATIONS/CHANGES: Changes I make depending on what I have on hand--use fire roasted tomatoes instead of the plain diced, add lime juice (a couple tablespoons), add fresh garlic (2-4 cloves), add dried cilantro (1-2 teaspoons), skip the jalapeno
