4 Lemon Gallon O' Lemonade

This is the greatest lemonade I ever had and lemonade is my favorite drink! You actually get an entire gallon of lemonade out of 4 large lemons. It is a little more work than traditional lemonade recipes, but TOTALLY worth it! A gallon does not last 24 hours in our house!

  1. Slice lemons and place in a large bowl.
  2. Add sugar and pour boiling water over all.
  3. Stir until sugar is dissolved, squashing lemon slices with back of spoon as you stir.
  4. Let sit until cool enough to handle.
  5. By hand, squeeze lemon slices and discard.
  6. Stir mixture to make sure well combined and all sugar is dissolved.
  7. Pour into a gallon container and fill with cold water (you can strain first if you like to get rid of the seeds).
  8. Serve over ice and ENJOY!

I'm so sorry...I found the same problem too. I would love to try this using maybe 6 lemons. I too like the boiling water concept and the idea of homemade lemonade is wonderful. Maybe in the summer I'll try this using 6 lemons and a little less sugar maybe. Lemons are just too expensive right now.

The unique method of steeping the lemon slices in the boiling water is a nice concept, however, I really didn't care for this. I found this lemonade to be extremely oversweet and not nearly lemony enough, despite using 4 huge lemons and following all of the directions carefully. I tried adding even more cold water, but that only diluted the lemon further and it still was very sugary. I usually enjoy sweet lemonade, but this was just way too sweet for me and not lemony enough. I am sorry - I know this is a recipe that Karen (the recipe poster) enjoys often with her family and perhaps others will also enjoy it.

I made this for the 4th of July. Everyone said they liked it because it wasn't as tangy as other lemonades. The bag of lemons I bought had 6 lemons in it so I added five to the mix and sliced the other one to float in it. Thanks Karen. Bullwinkle
