1,2,3,4, Tater Tot Casserole

"My husbands friend gave us this recipe. He makes it all the time. He told us about it and gave us the recipe, we tried it and like it. So I thought I would share. I know there are other Tater Tot casseroles listed, but I did not see this one, so I posted it. This one came from a 4 ingredient cook book."

 1. Thanks so much for sharing. My four year old daughter loves this recipe. It is now her #1 favorite, she is always requesting it. I've made it for her about 4 times now. She has thirds every time I serve this! I love the fact that it is so easy to make. If I don't have the ingredients at home then I can stop and pick them up on my way home from work using the express lane and it so easy to remember the ingredients list. It is warm, gooey, and yummy. We like to use the mini tator tots.

Updated: forgot to add stars

2nd update: since the meat is fully cooked you only have to cook this dish for the time listed on the tator tot package. I usually cover it the majority of the time then remove the foil for the last 5 minutes. Much FASTER this way.

 2. Very good and quick to prepare. I added some diced onion to the hamburger meat while it browned. I agree with other reviewers that it needed a little more seasoning. Next time I will use cans of soup, and some lawry's seasoning salt to the meat mixture. This is a great starting point for a tater tot casserole! Thanks!

 3. I seasoned the meat with chopped onions, garlic powder and gourmet burger seasoning. I also cooked mushrooms with the ground beef. I used 1 can cream of mushroom and 1 can cream of chicken soup. Sprinkled about 1/2 c. grated Colby / Cheddar cheese when I pulled it out of the oven. Hubby ate 3 plates. :-)

 4. DH and I were really suprised at how much we enjoyed this. Five stars for Fast, Flavorful and Filling. Can't go wrong with this one!

 5. I gave this recipe 4 stars. My future hubby and I really liked this recipe. This is such a simple and easy recipe to make. This also has a really good flavor for such a simple dish. The only change I made to this recipe was to use 1 pound of tater tots as that's what I had left to use up, but that was still plenty of tater tots. Overall I will so make these again for sure! Thanks for posting a really good recipe! Christine (internetnut)

Tweaks

 1. Didn't have soup. Browned meat with onion and garlic. Added cumin, chili powder, oregano, cayenne, salt and pepper. Poured taco sauce on top and covered with nacho cheese doritos and cheese then the tater tots. It's in the oven. Kids are calling it mexiquestion casserole. Fingers crossed

 2. I mixed a can of rotel tomatoes with the cream of mushroom soup.

 3. Add 2-3 cans of mixed vegetables

 4. This was so tasty! I ended up changing it a little bit as I used what I had on hand. Instead of 1 can of mushroom soup, I used 2 cans of cream of chicken soup. Other than that, I followed the recipe. It was absolutely delicious!

 5. There is nothing better than simple and delicious comfort food on a cold midwest winter day!!! This definately fills the bill! I added a little onion and garlic powder on top of the soup, and some salt and pepper on top of the tater tots. When I uncovered it for the last 15 minutes, I also put some sharp cheddar over the tater tots to melt it. It tasted like a hash brown casserole, and was delicious!!! I could see making this for a breakfast entree, and instead of using ground beef, use crumbled bulk pork sausage, and maybe add some diced red and green peppers for color and flavor. We will be enjoying this many more times to come! Thanks, Kim!!!
