Do NOT stress over the filo dough. Think of that aspect like pie dough. You're making a top layer and a bottom layer. Don't worry about splits and such, or complicated applications of layer of this, layer of that. It's not important in this recipe.

"This is a simple and healthy dish. The sauce is optional, but if you like a light vinegar-y sauce, it does add a little something to the dish. Otherwise some sort of cream sauce would probably be nice."

"This is a lovely canape for parties, great to take to a potluck. I always use 'country' ham, but use your favorite ham! This will be much easier if you have 4 miniature muffin tins. I don't remember where this came from, but I've had it saved for awhile."

"If only thick stalks of asparagus are available, peel the stalks. Blanch in boiling water for 2 minutes, drain and run under cold water until cold. If you have thin stalks, do not peel them, and blanch for only 1 minute."
