    A fruit with red-orange skin and flesh which comes in several varities: the Hachiya or Japanese is round with a pointed base (3 inches in diameter), soft when ripe and can be very bitter if underripe; Fuyu is smaller and tomato shaped, and firm even when ripe; Sharon fruit is a swee, round Israeli version
