Also called a slow cooker, a crock pot is a cooking device made from clay and is usually glazed. The glazed pot sits inside a metal heated element case. The crock acts as a cooking container and a heating reservoir. Most slow cookers have 2 setting high and low, and come with a lid that is tight fitting to retain moisture. The food is usually placed inside the ceramic/clay pot and liquid is added to it. Cooking times vary depending on the recipe, anywhere from 4-8 hours. The amount of liquid used also depends on what is being cooked. Slow cookers are readily available in most stores in a variety of models and sizes.
