How to Make Gravy
Enjoy rich, homemade turkey gravy by following these five simple steps.
Don't let your mashed potatoes and turkey go naked. Turkey gravy is the finishing touch to any holiday meal and is really easy to prepare.
1 Gather the Ingredients
You'll need: 1/2 cup of butter, 1/2 cup + three tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, four cups of pan drippings (or chicken broth), salt and pepper to taste.
2 Drain the Drippings
Take the pan drippings from the roasted turkey and drain through a fine mesh strainer. Allow the drippings to sit and remove any fat that rises to the top.
3 Make a Roux
In a medium saucepan, melt butter or margarine over low heat. Stir in black pepper and add in flour and whisk constantly for about 3 minutes.
4 Add the Drippings
Turn the heat up to medium-low and slowly whisk your turkey drippings. Whisk until the gravy becomes bubbly and thickens.
5 Serve & Enjoy!
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Gravy tastes best when served immediately, but if you're not quite ready, keep the gravy warm in your pot on the lowest heat setting and whisk again before serving.
