010: What is RSS - Subscribe?

RSS is an internet format which allows you to be notified when a web site has been updated. On Recipezaar, we offer RSS "feeds" for new recipes in each category. With RSS, you can find out about just the new recipes (and updates to other websites) without having to remember to visit the pertinent pages each day.

You just need to "subscribe" to the RSS feed in order to be notified. You must have a tool that can read RSS feeds in order to take advantage of this notification. These tools are often referred to as "News Aggregators", "RSS Readers" or "News Readers". We recommend:

My Yahoo access anywhere FREE
FeedDemon on the PC $35
NetNewsWire on the Mac $35
more RSS aggregators...

When you click on the RSS - Subscribe button you will just see a bunch of gobbledygook. These files are not meant to be read by humans, but by RSS Aggregators. What you do is click on the link and then copy and paste URL address for the feed from the address bar into your RSS Aggregator (the part that starts "http://www.recipezaar.com/rss..."

A growing number of web sites are adding an RSS "feed" to their site. Most of the time, you'll find the feed(s) by looking for a little button or link that says "XML", "RSS", or "Syndicate this site".
