A great accompaniment to Middle Eastern type sandwiches. Sumac can be purchased ground, or as whole berries you can grind yourself. It can be found at Middle Eastern groceries, and sometimes at well-stocked regular grocery stores. If you can't find sumac in your area, you can substitute with a little bit of paprika, cayenne and lemon juice instead. Untried by me, posted for ZWT NA*ME. Nice little scones filled with raspberry jam and topped with a rosewater-flavored glaze. These would be a nice addition to a Valentines Day breakfast, especially if you use a heart-shaped cutter. Adapted from Bon Appetit Feb. 2005.
I found this one on allrecipes and tweaked it a bit. It's a wonderful salad for a cookout or potluck, and leftovers keep well (it makes quite a large batch). Don't let the long ingredient list scare you off, it's actually very simple to make. For any ingredients with a range of amounts, the least amount is what I like to use, the greatest amount is what the original recipe calls for. This is a vegan-friendly recipe if veggie broth is substituted for chicken broth.
