For reasons unimportant here, I've ended up with an enormous quantity of vodka. So I've collected recipes for vodka-based liquors, cordials, extracts and a few other things. Similar recipes are grouped together, to facilitate comparisons. Hopefully this will help me put the vodka to good use - there are only so many Bloody Mary's I can drink!
This started as a recipe from friends, using instant coffee. They insisted that the quality of the final product is not affected by the quality of the vodka used. After switching to fresh coffee and "perfecting" the process, I learned that kahlua is a rum based liqueur. I have yet to make a batch with rum. **Update... September 13, 2006 -- I have made a batch with rum, and find it even smoother than making it with vodka.
Homemade Kahlua for recipes, parties or just cold winter nights. A drink called a "white Russian"--what a way to get our daily calcium requirements. I have to give credit to 123cook.com for this recipe. Have made it for a few years for Christmas
This is a friend's recipe for Kahlua - it will make several bottles. The alcohol content works out to about 16% (32 proof). A note - this does need to steep for about a month, so if you're planning on making it, start early.
One year for Christmas, I made all home-made food type gifts. My mom uses this recipe each year to share with co-workers and offered it to me. It is unique in that it has chocolate extract in it for a special flavor. Make sure to use the best ingredients you can get! If you are using it as gifts, you can purchase pretty bottles to put it in.
