Virtual Potluck 2009

Per a thread in CC: http://www.recipezaar.com/bb/viewtopic.zsp?t=289574 Let's have a virtual potluck! Anybody else want to come? Each participant needs to "bring" some of their favorite dishes, as follows: Appetizer: Main dish: Salad: Dessert: You may bring up to two dishes for each course. The only stipulations are that the recipes must be tried and true (by yourself) and the first recipe cannot be your own...it must be that of another chef. The second recipe can either be from another chef or one of your own.

This is a nicely-flavored simple salad that I love and make often in the summer. My husband is not as crazy about tomatoes as I am, but he will eat seconds of this dish. I clipped the recipe out of a newspaper several years ago.

Really Fast and Easy Dip that's sure to draw a crowd every time you put it out.

Recipe #15566

This is the only dressing I will ever use for Caesar Salad. It is from the creator of the Caesar Salad, Cesar Cardini. You can make it, like I do, or you can buy it in the store. It's a large bottle for 6.99 but this dressing goes a long way. NOTE that the original salad did not have bacon, croûtons or anchovy in it, but you can add them.

I made this the other day for a get-together of old friends. It got rave reviews from them, so I thought I'd post it here for others to enjoy. That, and so I don't forget what I did. :D If desired, you could serve it wrapped in a flour tortilla. Chopping the roast is much easier when using the pulse setting on a food-processor. The Mexican Dressing amounts are approximate...increase or decrease the salsa to taste.

I made Recipe #120317 over the weekend that was so beautiful. When I said I was just going to sprinkle powdered sugar on it, my DH said "but we have frosting" There was no way I was going to top this cake with canned frosting.... So I got busy and made this. I'm so glad I did... made the cake *Shine* and tasted so decadent.... rave reviews!!! Toot toot.... Had to get it on Zaar before I forgot how I made it ;)

This is sooo good. I think I finished it off all by myself in 2 days, taking little tastes every time i passed the fridge.

a light salad, good for lunch or a snack

A simple spice rub that gives chicken a yummy flavor. I bet it would be good on pork too. 4 points per serving for Weight Watchers. This recipe is core.

My mother-in-law made these for our Christmas Eve get-together recently. At first, I thought these would be "just another deviled egg," but they surprised me. They have that traditional deviled egg taste, but with just the right hint of both sweetness and tanginess added. The whole plate disappeared like magic. Even the kids loved them, as they weren't too spicy, nor did they have any "funny chunks" of onions, pickles, etc. They also keep well in the fridge, travel well, and are great to do ahead. I hope you enjoy them as much as our family did.

This is one of the most popular recipes I've ever made! From kid's to old folks everyone loves these noodles. Add some spicy "Rooster sauce" and more ginger to give it even more flavor. I have now adjusted my original recipe post (9/07). Apparently an employee had written the recipe down incorrectly cause I never measured. It's a really easy dish to make for pot luck's etc. Toast your sesame seeds if they haven't already been toasted for better flavor. Almost all of the ingredients are available at any Oriental Market and most regular grocery stores. You can add other ingredients to make it a whole meal. --Please note-- the soy sauce amount was incorrect in this recipe! I have now changed it! Add more if you like.

Recipe #244524

From Cooking Light magazine. I LOVE cold salads in the summertime. This one is exceptional. I often use the artichokes hearts in the jar with olive oil and spices already in it. You may need to adjust for that unless using the plain hearts.

Recipe #92285

These bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers are UNBELIEVABLY good! You'll love them!

Recipe #105670

A twist on the classic devilled egg, combining creamy avocado with the yolk for stuffing. You're gonna love it!

Recipe #280261

Got this recipe quite a few years ago from McCormick Spice Company. For many decades their cookbook has been my bible. Now, tattered and torn it is well loved and well worn and it was free with a large can of black pepper. The family finds this recipe even better then old regular deviled egg recipe. I will also post how to get a perfect peeling of a hard cooked egg.

This recipe is from my friend, Rita. They are always the first to go at parties. I'm always up for a new twist on deviled eggs, so I was so happy to get the recipe from her. They are the best I have ever had (including my own:( Yummy! You can add a little more mayo if you prefer a creamier filling.

Recipe #31195

My sister introduced me to these. They are always a big hit at buffets. Costco is a good place to get the supplies for these, as they sell almost all the ingredients (except maybe the squeeze cheese) in large quantities and at a decent price. These are also good just as a sandwich wrap. ;) Ingredient amounts are approximate, varying according to taste and quantities desired.

Recipe #99154

This is my sister's dip. She got the recipe while backpacking in Europe a few years ago. She is now forced to make it at every party she has. People smell it cooking and stand drooling by the oven until it comes out! (Many have not been able to wait for the cooling part and burned their mouths to get to it first). You might have to make 2 portions. **NOTE: Please CHECK the sodium content before you choose a ranch dressing mix, because it will affect the flavor! Some people have complained it is "too salty". Please also make sure you are using only a 1 ounce packet; there are other sizes from various manufacturers. Too much mix throws off the balance of flavors. My sister and I always use the Hidden Valley Ranch Original and we do not have any problems with it :) You can also substitute half the sour cream for prepared Ranch Dressing and skip the dry mix. It will come out a bit wetter.

Recipe #46267

This is a dish my family and friends ask me to bring to potluck/cook-outs! NEVER any left to bring home! (my sister brings a bowl to take what MIGHT be left) Taste great hot out of the oven or "room temperature"

My employer fixed this and told me to try the leftovers. It was delicious. I haven't made it yet, but plan on trying my hand at it soon.

Yummy with ice cream or whipped cream topping.
