My husband doesn't like to eat starchy food so I found this recipe on fatfreevegan.com and modified it a bit. This is an excellent replacement for mashed potatoes. I like this with Recipe #208856 with vegan gravy and either broccoli or green beans.
I have purchased packages of Seitan at the health food store, but have always wondered how to make it myself. I found a great recipe from Vegan Lunch Cast and decided to try it. It is simmering in the pot at the moment, so I don't know how it tastes, but I'll bet it's better then store bought.
Gold vegetable soup with red lentils added. I use butternut pumpkin, kumera and carrots. You can use any amounts of veges to your preference or whatever you have. The addition of carrots gives this soup a natural sweetness. A very easy soup to make with added protein. Nobody would guess that there are lentils in this soup-they just cook down and help to thicken the soup. To make this soup gluten free-ensure the stock used is labeled as GF. I use Massell brand as it is gluten free, lactose free and vegetarian. You really just cant go wrong making this soup-it's very easy to make. This does make a thick soup- so add some extra stock or water if you like a thinner style soup- add to your liking.
This soup is easy to put together with basic food items that most of us have around. I found the recipe in Better Homes and Gardens Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes, and I did some adjustments with the vegetables and herbs used. I was surprised at how good this very simple soup turned out.
Adapted from the January issue of Vegetarian Times. I thought that the original recipe was a bit bland, so the I added the optional ingredients listed below. Add the chili paste to your own liking. Original recipe says 1/2 tsp and we use at least one Tbsp
If you must live dairy-free and still love bagels here is something for you to try. I found this on a vegan website while looking for mock cream cheese to make smoked salmon spread with. I tried this and liked it!
If you don't have cashew paste or cashew butter you can put about 1/2 cup of cashews in the food processor until they get like peanut butter... then measure out 3 1/2 Tbsp. for the recipe. Raw cashews would be better, but I used salted and roasted with no problem.
These biscuits are THE BEST!!! This recipe is adapted from a non-vegan recipe I got from Williams-Sonoma, so it can easily be converted back to non-vegan by using real butter and buttermilk in place of the soured soy milk. Keep the butter and shortening cold to make the biscuits flaky, and handle the dough as little as possible so they will be tender. Cutting the biscuits into rectangles avoids leaving scraps which would need to be rerolled, which can lead to tough biscuits, but I have found that rerolling them once doesn't have that much of an impact.
I was trying to come up with a recipe that resembled those Granny B's sugar cookies. You know, those soft ones with the pink frosting? I think these are similar but even if they're not exactly the same, they're still good!
Low calorie and filling vegetable soup which makes an easy dinner by itself or with grilled cheese sandwiches. This recipe needs a large (5 quart or larger) slow cooker/crock pot. Recipe source: The Healthy Slow Cooker
