A Bonnie Stern Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada "Heartsmart" recipe. She adds "... when beets are baked, they retain more flavor and colour than they do when they are boiled, and skins will slip off easily while they are still warm."

    Recipe #74134

From Sergei and Valya Boutenko's Eating Without Heating: Favorite Recipes from Teens Who Love Raw Food. They say about it: "You can make nori rolls, cabbage wraps, spread it on crackers, stuff mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and more." I have adapted it to fit in my little Oscar food processor.

    Recipe #302765

This is a variation of a couple different recipes. It looks like a ton of ingredients but I usually have everything on hand. My husband loves this and its on our regular rotation now. The leftovers are delicious as well. I like to wait closer to the end to add the zucchini so it doesn't get mushy. You can also sub carrots for the peas (just add them earlier like with the onion). I serve with garlic cilantro rice and chapati or naan bread.

    Recipe #431852

Inspired by The Great American Detox Diet, by Alex Jamieson. Great with crackers, chips, bread, or raw veggies, and it's good for you too!

    Recipe #237177

This is very easy to throw together and you probably have all the ingredients on hand. I came up with this as I had too many baked beans and they are too hard on digestion when eaten straight. You can serve this many different ways....as dip/topping for nachos/tortilla chips, wrap up in a tortilla, over toast for breakfast, alongside a baked potato, or throw in some rice, macaroni, or bowtie pasta for a main meal!!

So the only way my husband agreed to go vegan was if I found a replacement pepperoni. The store bought ones are way too expensive so here is the winner!! This recipe is adapted from the Vegan Dad. This is spicy but if you like pepperoni then it shouldn't be too bad. You can freeze this as well. Put these on pizza, sandwiches, salads, in tofu scrambles, and on veggie burgers. **We have made our second batch and my husband thought we could go even spicer so we put in 8-10 dashes of Tabasco sauce...just like the store bought tabasco flavored ones (DH's favorite)!!** **Change: we have made these again using tahinin instead of olive oil & find it works out better.** **Also if you do not have a steamer or colander & pot you can bake for 1hour 15 minutes at 325deg.**

    Recipe #427676

This are such a quick & easy snack or meal to throw together. The ingredients look simple but the taste is amazing and sure to satisfy!

    Recipe #427719

Easy, creamy, chocolatey!! Recipe from Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero.

    Recipe #427851

This is a very elegant side dish which allows the natural flavors to shine through. I believe this recipe came from Nava Atlas.

    Recipe #429056

(LFRV compliant!) This is a great anytime a day drink however this is perfect as a before dinner smoothie as it contains digestive enzymes. Bromelain, an enzyme in pineapple, breaks down cholesterol in the blood and reduces inflammation in the blood and tissues. Bromelain also eliminates muscle, joint, and headache pain and also helps break down fats. Papain, an enzyme in papaya, breaks down protein molecules in the blood, reducing inflammation that is linked to allergies or pain. Papain even attacks a protein on the coating of cancer cells which helps eliminate this threat.

I love this dish, you can use a small jalapeno in place of the green pepper to give it some heat.

    Recipe #289545

I am at a loss to say what cookbook inspired this one, perhaps I did invent it after all. It's a good one dish meal, with a different use of lentils.

i just threw this together last night when some great friends came over for dinner. it was a really tasty addition to the rest of the meal: big, fresh romaine salad, cran carrots (posted separately) sauteed mushrooms, my friend's lentil loaf (posted separately), rye bread, great spanish red wine, candidato-blueberry crumble for dessert (posted separately). and my husband and i just finished up the leftovers which reheated nicely. enjoy!

I tried to recreate the veggie burgers that McMaster University's Bridges Cafe serves, and I think I've pretty much got it with this recipe.

If you've heard about the Engine 2 Diet and want to try an Engine 2 approved recipe, here's a sample recipe to try. This is Rip Esselstyn's "Raise the Roof" sweet potato vegetarian lasagna. It's so good, he says, that he served it at his own wedding! It's also low in fat and cholesterol-free. Recipe courtesy of The Engine 2 Diet, by Rip Esselstyn. When I made this recipe, I only needed one box of lasagne noodles because the veggie mixture was so plentiful that I couldn't fit in another layer. The flavor is great, and I think you could use rotini noodles and bake it in a casserole dish for an easier preparation. (Leave the sweet potatoes in chunks if you do that.) Notice that the recipe doesn't call for any oil. If you use a non-stick wok, just add a little water to the bottom and it works just fine.

For this sweet and tart salad, wheat berries are blended with cranberries, apples and pecans and tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette—a winning combination. A perfect side dish to take to a potluck or simply serve it over a bed of peppery arugula for vegan lunch. Recipe from Eating Well March/April 2007. (Cooking time is resting time). If you wish to sweeten your salad up a bit but don't have Agave, feel free to sub 1 T of honey. Also of note, I have made this with a peach and 2 apricots instead of the grapes and apple (thereby making this wheat berry salad with ORANGE fruit) and it is delightful!!!! This salad is even better on day 2, so it's a great make ahead recipe.

    Recipe #382938

This is a variation of a salad I found in the local newspaper a while back!

    Recipe #223278

The original of this recipe was found online at GoneRaw, but I tweaked it a little. I've used a rounded 2-up measure of frozen peaches for this.

    Recipe #338307

The recipe for this salad was found in the 2004 cookbook, Raw Food for Busy People. Preparation time does not include the 3 hours needed for the salad to marinate!

    Recipe #368600

There are other salads by the same name posted on Zaar. This one was has been lightened and made more healthy. The lovely colors are ideal for the holidays but it's easy to enjoy year round.
