    Ugly Jello Salads

It seems that just about every family has its own jello salad that it fixes during the holiday season, and in a conversation with my friend Lori from work she referred to her family's version as an "ugly jello salad." I simply couldn't resist this title, and while admittedly not all of the traditional family jello salads are truly ugly in appearance and actually are quite tasty... this is how I'll continue to think of them for a very long time. (Please note that the order in which these recipes are displayed do not reflect, in any way, those dishes of which I'd actually like to partake. Thank you!)

I do not know where my aunt got this recipe from, but she made it for me about 15 years ago and it became an automatic favorite. We call it the fish because it's made out of Tuna and on a fish mold. I have no idea what the original name is.

Lovely salad that everyone loves. Kids included. Looks awesome served in a glass bowl.

    Recipe #38877

This recipe is one my father-in-law was very fond of. It's a family favorite, not only because Pat loved it but also because it's dang good. Cook time is mostly chill time.

    Recipe #109625

My Grandmother, Maggie, was a marvelous chef. Simple, but good, was her ideal dish. This is one of her signature recipes.

    Recipe #17915

This is a variation on the traditional cranberry/pineapple salad; red and green layers with a cream cheese layer in between. My mom makes this at Christmas and/or Thanksgiving and I can't stop eating it. Would be good for potlucks, too. Yum!

    Recipe #108495

This is a good dish to serve with turkey & the trimmings during the holidays. It can be prepared ahead of time and keeps well in the freezer. There is no cooking time...just freezing time.

    Recipe #93813

This salad is a MUST at our holiday table...maybe it will be at yours too! To speed the jelly stage along, I place the bowl in the freezer, but watch it closely. If it goes past the jelly stage, put it in the microwave for a few seconds to loosen it. This is GREAT for potlucks too!

    Recipe #51892

This is a family favorite, I can remember loving it from my first bite when I was a tiny tot. It makes a beautiful presentation when put in a glass 11x13 baking dish. It takes a few minutes every hour or so to tend to the 9 layers, but it will be worth every minute! Be sure to take copies of the recipe when you take this to your next party. Be assured people will ask for the recipe!

    Recipe #107141

I found this recipe in an Amish cookbook and immediately thought how this might be a perfect side dish for autumn and winter meals and the holidays, year 'round! (Prep time does not include time for jello to set).

    Recipe #42348

Our family looks forward to this every holiday. It's a yummy and unusual dessert that always sparks a conversation. An easy recipe that even children have no trouble assiting with.

    Recipe #29380

This is a light Jello salad that works well in a Jello mould or just in a bowl. We have served this every Thanksgiving and Christmas for as long as I can remember. I suppose you could try other Jello Flavors, but we like the Lime so much, I never have.

I adopted this recipe after my friend, Shelly, left the site. She is very proud of this recipe and swears that the shredded cheddar MAKES the salad. Our dear friend, winkki, is also fond of this and claims that it is the only jello salad that she will eat because she remembers her grandmother making it. May jello live on for all of us! Shelly's original comments are: "I make fun of jello molds but this is NOT a jello mold! It is a little weird but my mother makes this every year around the holidays and I love it. Sorry the amounts are kinda vague. Hope they suffice. It's kinda like a big bowl of dreamsicle! (sorta) Cook time includes my minimal chill time. So good! Also, I'm sure you can probably use INSTANT vanilla pudding but my dear mother to this day always uses the kind ya have to cook. Go figure."

    Recipe #84301

This salad is beautiful in color (lovely served in a clear glass or crystal bowl) and refreshing in taste. Different from other cranberry-pineapple salads, this one is not made with gelatin, making it lighter and fluffier. Begin making the salad 2 days before you need to serve it.

This is a delicious cranberry sauce or relish! It was a triple blue ribbon winner at three large fairs! It was a family secret recipe until now. It is the most requested family recipe in our family.Even people who don't like cranberries, love this recipe.

    Recipe #44406

There just couldn't be a more delicious summertime dessert than this. I have even prepared this in a square glass pan, instead of unmolding it, I just leave it in the pan and cut in squares....so yummy! (prep time is chilling time).

    Recipe #98526

    Family favorite for 60 years.

    Recipe #75467

Cranberry sauce makes this a little different from most congealed salads. Recipe was from my Aunt Phil in Virginia. Especially good with turkey, chicken or pork. Time does not include chilling time.

    Recipe #57660

From a recipe booklet out out by the Quebec Federation of Maple Producers. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds delicious and different. I'm translating from French so if something is unclear please ask me.

    Recipe #84454

This is such a simple and refreshing gelatin mold. Great for those summer get-to-gethers, but don't expect there to be any leftovers! (Cooking time is chilling time)

I like this recipe because it is very tasty and easy to make and I'm sure will be loved by all who like to eat avocado. I found it in Woman's Day Encyclopedia of cookery.
