From: “The Essential African Cookbook” by Rosamund Grant.

    Recipe #310168

Posted for ZWT, but I haven't made it yet. The recipe didn't specify amounts on the spices, but I would guess between 1/8 - 1/2 teaspoon of each, then more to taste later if needed. Also, I guessed on the servings and the time, and I didn't include the marinating time in the time requirements.

I found this recipe on-line while looking for South African recipes and it stated: "adapted from South African Gourmet Food and Wine by Rosen & Loon"

This sounds like a really good black bean soup...though I love most ALL black bean soup! I'll update once I've tried it. I'm posting this for ZWT 4. This is a recipe I got by Cinda Sanners from her "Soup Buffet" show.

    Recipe #308228

Puréed fresh corn adds unique sweetness to this dessert. Tossing the raspberries with a small amount of flour prevents them from sinking to the bottom of the cake. From the July 2002 Cooking Light Magazine.

    Recipe #307797

This is a greek recipe posted for ZWT4. I got this recipe from All recipes with a few variations.

This is a recipe I threw together one evening and my husband loved it. It can be made under the broiler or on the grill. Don't be afraid of the ranch dip/dressing. . .the fish doesn't taste like ranch when it's cooked! UPDATE: This recipe was featured in the August 2009 edition of Everyday with Rachael Ray in the Take 5 section (recipes with 5 ingredients or less).

    Recipe #307406

This recipe uses Stacey Sweet's recipe #112783 as the chocolate base to which Italian flavorings, developed by the Gastronomic Gauchos for ZWT4, have been added in the form of hazelnut liqueur and traditional Italian biscotti containing a blend of almonds, walnuts, and a hint of anise. Made so easily using your very own ice cream maker kitchen gadget. Prepare yourself for a very rich and sensual frozen delight!

I first had one of these wonderful sandwiches just after I had moved to Cyprus; I remember sitting in an old, rundown taverna with a chilled Keo beer, whilst gazing out towards the deep blue Mediterranean Sea! Bliss! They are usually made in long, fat finger rolls, similar to hoagies or sub rolls, but you can also make them with pitta bread or other shapes of bread rolls. Halloumi is a traditional Cypriot cheese, which is still made locally by lots of Cypriot ladies - you often see the cheeses "hanging out to dry" in old, but hopefully clean (?) tights or stockings! Halloumi is an extremely good cheese for cooking, it maintains its shape and becomes toasty and slightly salty when fried or grilled. You can buy packs of good quality Cypriot Halloumi cheese in most supermarkets or in a delicatessen. It can last for up to ONE year when bought in a vacuum-sealed pack! Halloumi is the Greek Cypriot name for this cheese, the Turkish Cypriots call it Hellim - it is the same cheese however, and the best cheese is made with 100% sheep’s milk. You will find these sandwiches all over Cyprus in different guises, this is my favourite combination.

The wild gals of Café Zmakk bring to you “Lip Zmakk'in Gypsy Gelato” - a delectable and creamy concoction of cream, amaretto, almonds, marzipan, amoreto biscotti all topped off with sumptuous red fruit! The ingredients represent our team PERFECTLY! French Tart feels flighty and flirty with a tipple of Amaretto, whilst Mom2Rose gets quite nutty when she eats almonds! Katew craves the deep and mysterious feel of marzipan topped with raunchy raspberries; however, AuntWoofieWoof likes to bathe in a bath of double cream with a few strawberries thrown in for good measure! Annisette favours vanilla, because she is pretty strong on her own but likes to enhance the flavours of others. Meanwhile, Chef Pot Pie thinks she should tell you, that she is JUST like an amaretto biscuit, as she’s sweet, a little crunchy, and GREAT with coffee! Zurie swings into action with her thin almond wafers – sophisticated and ready to SCOOP up any ice cream within 10 paces! Emily Elizabeth finishes off this delightful delectation with a spoon full of sugar. This creation is brought to you by special delivery. Are YOU wild enough to sample our Lip Zmakk'in Gypsy Gelato? You will need an ice cream maker for this.

Posted for the ZWT4-- Frozen Italian Dessert Challenge-- Part 1, this is an unusual and unique gelato recipe with some ingredients that are not necessarily traditional. Although lemon and pistachio are typical of fine Italian cuisine by their Mediterranean character, the ingredients take a curve ball by using both buttermilk and lemon yogurt to give both a solid base and a nice tartness to accentuate the lemon flavor. The Splenda was made as an option to accomodate those with special dietary needs, and the egg yolks and heavy cream, while not traditional, provide richness and act as a stabilzer for this yummy frozen dessert.
