Yummy, sweet version of an empanada...popular in Latin America :)

My grandma used to make us fried okra a lot when I was a child and I loved it. This version comes from the "Soul and Spice" cookbook. My family likes to eat the fried okra with ranch dressing or ketchup but it is equally good on its own.

This sweet-tart Japanese style dressing is from the Flying Fish Restaurant in beautiful Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. This dressing can also be used as a marinade for chicken, pork and beef.

I absolutely love feta cheese and always looking for recipes to incorporate it in. This is an easy breakfast my family loves.

Submitted for the 'Zaar World Tour 2005. Ciao!

    Recipe #135281

This has a nice savory Mediterranean-style sauce which is also great for pasta, shrimp, or fish. Adapted from Real Simple Magazine May 2007.

A friend of mine brought this for dinner and it was SO good and fresh... a great Summer side!

A stir-fry that is a little different, and relatively easy to put together. Found this recipe on the web. Can easily use white or brown rice instead of the jasmine rice!

    Recipe #294914

This smoothie is an amazing fusion of flavors. I made it up this morning and the kids said it is the best they have ever tasted. That is a huge compliment from my 5 kids who all have different tastes. I made and will make this in my vitamix.

This is a rustic, thick pasta sauce that strays from the traditional jarred sauces you see. It's hearty, healthy, and filling. The cutting of the vegetables does not have to be precise as everything is pureed at the end. Even sized cuts simply allow for even roasting.

I love hummus and this recipe is one of the best I've tried. I like to spread it on pita triangles and top with cucumber, chopped kalamata olives, and feta. I think the homemade tahini paste makes it much better.

    Recipe #191672

A friend of mine and I once made this from a recipe we found in a cooking magazine, but lost the recipe. I found it again, so I'm putting it here so as not to lose it again. It calls for ciabatta bread, but anything light with a good crunchy crust will be as good. It's also great grilled panini-style.

Don't let the name turn you off! This soup has a nice thick consistency that is nice and flavorful. A perfect blend of vegetables, legumes and grains. I personally do not like the texture of couscous when eaten like rice or pasta yet I LOVE this soup! Leftovers freeze well. Recipe from "Meal Lean i Yum!"

Build your own burger - the recipe here is for a low-fat cranberry and herb turkey burger, with LOTS of options! Plump semi-dried Canadian cranberries and fresh chopped herbs are added to lean, low-fat turkey mince for a moist and flavourful burger, and without the guilt! I have offered the bacon, cheese, assorted condiments and the burger bun as an option; if you are REALLY watching your calories and fat intake, just go with the plain burger and a lovely crispy mixed salad on the side. Turkey mince can be a little bland, so the addition of the herbs and cranberries adds a real flavour injection. Try to use freshly chopped herbs for the best flavour, if you do use dried herbs, reduce the quantities by half, as dried herbs are more pungent than fresh. If you prefer a slightly sweeter taste, use Craisins, the sweetened dried cranberries that are available in North America and Canada; this recipe has been posted as a thank you to a Canadian friend on Recipezaar, who kindly sent me some Craisins, along with lots of other Canadian goodies! Merci beaucoup!

This is one of my diet recipes that I found while on Weight Watchers. I saw that there is a 1-point recipe but, this is 4 points and well-worth the extra 3 points!!!

This is a wonderful chicken recipe. The chicken falls apart into the sauce once plated. Excellent with rice even better with my homemade rice pilaf. I have posted this recipe as well under Elaine's Rice Pilaf.

Nalenski are very traditional thin pancakes in Poland and come with a huge variety of fillings (and toppings). This recipe is for crepes filled with fresh apple. Posted for ZWT 4.

A great way to use up leftover boiled, baked or mashed potatoes. I love omelets and separately whipping the egg whites makes this light and fluffy despite the inclusion of potatoes. In case you're wondering about taste - imagine a cross between a knish and a souffle. Other herbs or grated onions might be good variations.

From my grandmother's recipe box and the clipping said that it was from a restaurant on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong.
