Early Virginia settlers made this hearty stew with squirrel meat. Better Homes and Gardens updated version simmers all day in your crock pot and features chicken and ham.

I have just divulged my own county's, my grandmother's, and my mother's most coveted soup recipe. (Lord, help me!) My most wonderful food memories stem from this soup. When I was a little girl, family and friends would gather at my parents house, bringing proportionately larger amounts of the listed ingredients (alas, usually fresh ingredients). Everyone would gather outside around the old iron washpot over a wood fire and prepare this stew with the ingredients they had brought. My mom and dad cooked the stew for hours as everyone visited. The results? Simply perfection. Nothing has ever tasted better to me on a cold Winter day.

This is my own version of Panera Bread's black bean soup. It tastes a lot like it, and I love it! Use vegetable stock to make it vegetarian.

    Recipe #49737

Delicious, hearty, low fat and high protein soup that doesn't use meat or bones for flavor - just fresh veggies and spices.

This recipe is from Executive Chef Remy Schaal of la Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe. Founded in Dallas in 1983, la Madeleine has many neighborhood cafes and bakeries in five states and Washington, D.C. Excellent potato soup!

    Recipe #63500

This recipe is from another web site. It is like O'Charley's Loaded Potato Soup. In fact, I prefer this recipe over the real thing. Times are a guess.

This is Top Secret Recipes version of The Soup Nazi's Mexican Chicken Chili. The secret to this soup seems to be the long simmering time. If you like, you can substitute turkey breast for the chicken to make turkey chili.

Great for a light supper! Serve with a crusty baguette spread with some roasted garlic, a tossed salad with wild baby greens and a balsamic vinaigrette and you're on your way! Make a double batch and the leftovers freeze well, too.

    Another yummy Fall soup

This recipe is from a Weight Watchers meeting. It is so quick -- I ate it daily when I was on maternity leave with my second son. If I am making it for the week, I just empty the cans into a plastic container and warm up 1 serving in the microwave. I have also made it using frozen corn and mixed vegetables. This is my favorite soup! It's warm and comforting on a chilly Fall evening. I adapted it from a recipe I found on another website years ago. Unlike the original recipe, it's made with milk or soy milk instead of heavy cream, so it's healthy and can be dairy-free!

    Recipe #62380

This chicken soup recipe is particularily good especially when you have a cold. Substitute and use turkey if it is available.

    Recipe #63878

Stock your pantry ahead of time to whip up this delicious satisfying soup. It comes together quickly for a nice meal. I got the recipe from Southern Living Magazine (Carol Michael Hewett, Texas). I made a few changes by adding celery, and adding 3 more cups of broth (because we don't like soup that thick). The original recipe called for 5 cups of water. I used part water and part chicken broth.

Halloween Jack is a character in David Bowie's song "Diamond Dogs", which includes one of my favorite song lyrics of all time... "As they pulled you out of the oxygen tent, you asked for the latest party." This soup makes me think of Halloween Jack, as it's full of two kinds of Monterey Jack cheese, plus a little chili powder and tomato giving it a light pumpkiny color. And it's quick and warming, a good supper as you're trying to get your little goblins out of the door so they can get lots of candy on Halloween night.
