I was going through my grocery the other day and was happily surprised to find in the Asian foods section a type of noodle called shirataki. I was very happy with they because my father is on a low carb diet and is missing pasta terribly, and these long white noodles only had 1.5 carbs in 1 serving. So, I bought two water patched bags of noodles, some hoisin, and sesame oil, and just let my mind go. Here is what I came up with.
This is an inspiration from Sugarpea and her recipe: Bowtie Pasta with Broccoli and Broccoli sauce. If you're trying to loose weight, are on a low carb diet or just trying to eat healthier check out House Foods Shirataki noodles. What a great alternative to pasta. It's quick to fix, so good for you and tastes GREAT! UPDATE: I made a couple of modifications to this recipe to make a LOT less fat and more healthy thanks to my reviewer.
This recipe came from: http://www.care2.com/channels/solutions/food/1056 It is absolutely divine. It even has non-tofu people singing its praises. It is a great "starter vegetarian" type recipe. I like to serve it with some plain rice.
Tried this the other day and loved it! If you use a couple of 8 oz. packages of diced tofu, found in the produce section of your grocery store, and bottled minced ginger, this goes together in no time. A rice cooker does a great job with brown rice, too, and will keep the rice warm until serving. A quick, healthy dish from Cooking Light.
I fooled a lot of people; they still think the pie couldn't have tofu in it! I make it with a lot of spices. Be flexible; use more or less as need be. I also skip the crust and put it into a Pam-sprayed dish.
