Trust me you will be craving this often once you try it! --- you may use regular white salt but the seasoned salt is better, also use as much cheese and tomato slices as desired, I sometimes add in some chopped sweet yum yum pickles to the tuna filling too --- low-fat mayonnaise and cheese may be used :)
This recipe served as the cover photo for the August 2007 issue of Food and Wine magazine. I couldn't get my mind off the photo and made these the very next day. This is a perfect summertime sandwich! Quick, easy and delicious. Prep time includes marinating time.
Tender, garlicky and full of oregano 'n stuff! Start this one a day ahead; the beef slices need an overnight stay in da gravy to be at their best. And please don't overcook the roast! As it rests right out of the oven and as it's reheated it'll stop mooing! Serve on crusty Italian sandwich rolls; add sauteed peppers if you like, but too much more and it starts looking like a Philly steak 'n cheese, a whole other beast. Prep time includes overnight marinating.
This recipe comes from my longtime friend, Dawn. It's a great cool weather meal, great for football games, prepare it and keep it warm in the crockpot.Start this the morning of when you plan to serve it. I'm sure it can be adapted to cooking in the crockpot, maybe 8-10 hours on low. It smells heavenly while it's simmering! This also freezes well.
I've tried many recipes, this is the best. I once 'dec-tupled' (10x) this recipe to sell sandwiches at a craft fair at my church. People were waiting in line to buy leftovers. Freezes well, goes up to the lake or camping well and is a hit on Halloween...it's no-fail. Easy to double, triple, etc. I've been making Joes this way for over 20 years.
***03-08-09, I just reinvented this recipe tonight when I went to make it for dinner and found I didn't have an 8-oz. can of tomato sauce (shame on me). The family was upset with me when I subbed an 8-oz. can of pizza sauce and told them to suck it up and call them 'Pizza Joes' and then served them up with shredded mozzarella cheese on the toasted buns, top and bottom. They loved it. I left out the BBQ sauce in this preparation and just used a 1/2 cup ketchup. Pizza Joes are good to go!
This sandwich is fantastic however a little time consuming! Adapted from recipe found on the Gilded Fork which can be found at: www.gildedfork.com under Aug. 06 search for grilled chicken salad roasted peppers.
I was looking for something to do with all the hard boiled Easter eggs and wanted a different egg salad, this a recipe she would make for her daughter. I love the different flavors in this instead of plain egg salad. I made mine with the mustard powders and another batch with the cayenne pepper. Hope you enjoy a different twist on this egg salad. Preparation time does not include time for boiling eggs.
This makes some of the best hot sandwiches. Delicious, deeply flavored beef with rich aujus for dipping. Put it together in the morning and come home to a great meal! We like it with a green salad and some chips on the side. I'm not sure where this came from- maybe the food network or some magazine. The left-overs(if there are any) freeze well. Thaw, thicken the aujus and add any remaining meat and serve over rice or noodles.
This is a tasty under 30 minute meal perfect for a busy day and made with ingredients usually on hand. The recipe serves the meat mixture in pitas, but flour tortillas or lettuce wraps would be a good choice too. The recipe is from Family Circle magazine.
