It's sort of like Waldorf Salad, but there's no mayonnaise here, and the end taste is fresh and clean! A nutritious salad for a picnic, or to serve with grilled meats -- or just to enjoy as a light lunch. These great nut oils are now widely available and so much healthier than mayonnaise!
My Grams used to make this often when I was growing up. I just loved it and still do! Hubby requests this a lot and so does the picky daughter! It's so simple, yet tastes so good. Especially on hot summer evenings.
This is my favorite Caesar salad dressing. It comes together in minutes with a stick blender.
I got the original recipe from a Fine Cooking magazine and in the past year I've made some adjustments until it suits me perfectly. I'm posting it mainly because I always panic if I can't find the paper I wrote it on. :)
Note: this recipe uses raw egg. If that is of concern to you, use a pasturized egg. I don't usually care for anchovies but don't leave them out! It makes such a huge difference in the flavour. Use half as much if you are worried.
NOTE: I had my first 'fail' with this last week. Please use a room temperature egg yolk and also make sure that the immersion blender is submerged right to the bottom before you turn it on. It doesn't like cold eggs. The taste will be there but it will be much thinner
By Susan Russo, a food journalist and blogger (Food Blogga). She recommends it with grilled steak, but I make it with grilled fish. She writes, "If you’re making this salad ahead, hold off on adding the dressing and cheese until you’re ready to serve."
The char adds a smoky taste to the watermelon but does soften it a bit; if you're skeptical about grilling it this combination of flavors works so well together you can just use ungrilled melon.
A delicious coleslaw with a little citrus twist! Adapted from Cooks Recipes. If you like your slaw a little wetter, make another 1/2 recipe of the dressing. Enjoy! This is southwestern also made in Spain, they like to use citrus.
I'm always on the lookout for any recipe containing avocado, black beans and corn. This great summer salad was sent to me in a recipe exchange and I fell in love with it. Great salad to have for Cinco de Mayo.
I got this recipe from a coworker at the salon I work at. I didn't think it would be so wonderful and addictive! It's very creamy and sweet, and a great mix of flavors. It will be the best thing you ever use grapes for (except maybe wine!).
I saw this on the Food Network a few years ago, and love it. It turns out pink (beets + Stilton). It's part of Christmas menu this year and I've taken to many a potluck. Friends have enjoyed this for not knowing it contains raw beets, which are not really sweet. :) I'm posting here for safe keeping.
