    Salads

I am in a rut....I make plain, old, green salad, all the time! I don't try alot of salad recipes because of the calories or because the recipe calls for crazy ingredients that I do not have on hand. Or.........it makes a vat full and I would be the only one eating it! I am trying to move out of my comfort zone! These all look great!

I had the most fantastic side salad from a cafe yesterday. I believe I have recreated it! It was originally made with peanuts but I prefer toasted pecans. Try both and see what you think.

This recipe was given to my mother by a dear friend. I use pre-packaged slaw mix that has the carrots already in it and just add the onions. Also, I use Canola oil instead of Crisco. This can be made "days" in advance as it gets better as it sits.

    Great for Summer. 4 points

    Recipe #306042

This is what I whip up when I need 1000 Island. It is much better than store bought. Goes great on Reuben sandwiches, salads, burgers or as a dip with French fries. My family does not usually eat 1000 Island but they love this! I love it with Nick's Mom's Recipe #179493.

This recipe came from Taste of Home. Make sure you have a big bowl handy because this makes a lot. I use low fat ingredients but you can use regular if you prefer!

    Recipe #169883

This is the most delicious coleslaw that you will ever have! I make this for weddings, large socials and in the summer for BBQ's and parties, and there is never anything left it all goes and everyone wants the recipe --- plan ahead the coleslaw needs to be refrigerated for the stated time to blend the flavors, this coleslaw will intensify in flavor with chilling time --- this is not a thick heavy dressing like some other coleslaw recipes it's the perfect texture and flavor and what makes this coleslaw stand out from all others is the fresh lemon juice so please use only fresh I have used bottled in the past and it is just not the same --- the dressing amount will yield enough for two 16-ounce packages prepared coleslaw mix or 1 head of green cabbage --- for one 16-ounce package prepared coleslaw mix use the dressing amounts posted on bottom of recipe and add in 3 or more large of chopped green onions. Taken from the pages of Light & Tasty magazine, this is a great alternative to the higher fat versions of ranch dressing. Nice on a dinner salad or as a veggie dip.

My sister-in-law made this salad for a family dinner just before my husband and I were married. In a hurry I wrote the recipe down. I've shared this recipe often through the years of our marriage. Recently at a dinner, my SIL asked if I made this recipe often. I replied that yes I did and every year I have to make California Salad. The look on her face was priceless and her reply was "I thought I gave you this recipe years ago!". After visiting on this topic further, we discovered I had abbreviated cauliflower to Calif. Salad thus it's name. I hope you enjoy!

This is an excellent version! There are many reanch dressing recipes here but I couldn't find one exactly like this.

    Recipe #155243

I've tried a bunch of low cal 1000 Island dressing recipes and finally found one I like that doesn't have a zillion weird ingredients! I make mine with light Miracle Whip instead of mayo. Cooking time is actually chilling time. One T has 14 calories, less than one gram of fat, 1 gram of protein, 2 grams of carbohydrate, & 56 mg of sodium

    Recipe #152154

It's easy to make your own salad dressing and far cheaper than buying it.

    Recipe #20158

If you run out, here is a quick recipe that tastes better than store bought!

    Recipe #100355

My 13-going-on-35 year old son tasted this at a friend's house and actually ASKED me to make salad!! Can you imagine?? Me either. I immediately called the friend's mom and got this recipe. Hope it gets your teens to eat salad too.

    Recipe #148138

This is a very creamy and semi-thick dressing. It is good on a crisp green salad.

    Recipe #36477

Have you ever posted a recipe and just love reading the reviews for it? This is my signature potato salad. Whenever there is a pot luck function at work, I am TOLD that I have to bring the potato salad. No one else is allowed to and I am never given a choice. Thank you everyone who ever tried this potato salad and for leaving such glowing reviews for it. You all have made me look so good. I personally can not stand eggs or raw onions, so I leave them out but I know most people don't think a potato salad is complete without them. Thanks again for so many wonderful reviews. (psssst....check out my recipe #123107 as well. It shares the dressing with this recipe but tastes much much different because of the different ingredients) Please see Recipe #242966 for bacon bit tips.

    Recipe #20155

I have never been satisfied with store bought or ranch dressing recipes. This one is thick, fresh tasting and doesn't have that "mayonnaise" flavor. Tastes very similar to that dressing from that famed "aussie" steak restaurant if you add paprika and cayenne to it. This is my own recipe and I had a party and served it with fresh veggies and it got rave reviews. Hope you like it.

    Recipe #59559

Tasty, easy, and low fat. Doesn't get much better than that.

    Recipe #109525

From the August 2005 Cooking Light issue. The walnuts are my addition. Now that apple season is about upon us, it's time to sample different varieties. This salad recipe is a good start.
