This is a really old family favourite that my mum often made. Now I make it! It's OK with tinned pie apples (but home cooked are best), it's good over stewed apricots, peaches, nectarines, quinces, and it's nice to mix stewed rhubarb in with the apple when it's available.
This is posted for a request. It comes from a very old copy of a PWMU (Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union) cookbook. Crumbles are a favourite winter dessert for my family, and one I actually make, as they are so simple.
I promise this is one of the nicest ways to enjoy quality tomatoes and basil. Like I say, don't make this if you can't get hold of home-grown or vine-ripened tomatoes. It's not worth doing. And don't use your tomatoes from the fridge.
This is pretty much how lasagna gets made in Australia, usually no cottage cheese or ricotta. I have been making it this way for over 30 years, but can't find a similar recipe on here yet. I find it easier to make the beef sauce the day before, and reheat it a little, but I like to use the cheese sauce hot and freshly made. This mix fills a tray 12x8x3 for me, and I find it easier to cut through the top layer with kitchen scissors before taking to it with a knife to cut into serving portions.
I know a lot of people don't like fruitcake, but I love it and can't understand what's not to love;-). This is a nice simple one from my high school cookbook. I've made a couple of changes to the original recipe over the years.
My DIL Leah made this Bill Granger salad for us last night. The original calls for a handful of small olives, Leah used a 375g jar of kalmata olives which was perfect. She cut the carrots into long thin matchsticks (julienne).
My favourite soup on a hot summers day-I just love this. The prep time doesn't include chilling which I think takes about 6 hours. The canned Asian chicken stock I used to use is no longer available, so Aussies note I now use the boxed liquid stuff.
This is a REALLY popular Aussie dessert-one that you often find at potlucks. It's simple and yummy-what more could you ask for!
Editing to add the photo is of a double mixture. Additional photos show the steps involved making this ring.
