This is delicious, super-easy to make, and the ingredients are what you will always have on hand in your pantry. Before we even knew how to bake cakes and cookies, my little sister and I used to make this whenever a sweet craving attacked us (a not infrequent event!).
This is an adaptation of my mother's recipe, I figured that if rum & raisin ice cream is good, why not bread pudding? Of course, you could use brandy or cognac or plain old water for soaking the raisins! Top the pudding with recipe #56294 Custard Sauce or recipe #56293 Rum Sauce or vanilla ice cream.
We have a lot of Greek restaurants in our area, and they all serve Rice Pudding. This recipe is as good, if not better than theirs. My Mom always ordered Rice Pudding when we would go out. Then one day she found this recipe and tried it and said I found a recipe that is better than the restaurants. SHE WAS RIGHT. This is the best that I have ever had.
A delicious bread pudding served warm or cold with custard sauce, whipped cream, or recipe #9347. Also good for breakfast with maple syrup. I used recipe #78579 to prepare the baking dish and added more raisins. From Foodland Ontario booklet.
This is so simple to make and it will make your house smell wonderful! It reminds me of when I was little. It takes a while to make but there is no work involved, it's just time in the oven that you can spend doing something else. Alternatively, you can also use a vanilla pod instead of the cinnamon stick, just slice it open and throw it in instead of the cinnamon stick.
