This came from an episode from food network. This is a cute and festive kid pleaser. A real creative way to make a treat and a party favor all in one. Can be served for birthday parties, holidays or even bake sales. This recipe allows you to add your own creative flare.I find that the candy coating from the craft store is easier to work with. You will also need goody bags and 1 large bag of mini packs of candy such as smarties, m&m's, or twizzlers e.t.c.
This recipe was given to my Mother in law and it is one of those special always-at-the-holidays sweets. They are very sweet, so cutting them in very small squares is usually how we do it. I just guessed at the servings because it really depends on how you cut it.
I was very surprised to not see a recipe for this cake. It is very popular with mothers of young girls. My daughters 4th is tomorrow and I can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees her cake! I welcome as many pics as possible to show all the different styles you can create with this idea.
Jan 31st,08 EDIT: I used my Pampered Chef measuring/mixing bowl to bake this in, and it also was too short for the doll to fit down in. I ended up buying a cheap dime store imitation that had hollow legs and just cut them off at the correct height. :)
This is another of our family favorites that makes for an excellent addition to the serving tray. Looks very appealing on the holiday platter and great for special occasions. I often substitute the graham crumbs with crushed Nillas. Just as good untinted - but as my mom reminds me " always make the icing using the juice from a real lemon" - realemon will work but she's right ... that lemon juice makes for awesome!
These cookies are so dainty and pretty that I served them at my daughter's birthday tea. When I make them during the year, I use multicolored sprinkles on top rather than the crushed candy canes. They are on my "must have" list at Christmas. They are always the first to go at a party. I've had several people say, "I just can't stop eating them". Best eaten within about 2 days of baking. Note that dough does need to be chilled for about an hour before baking.
I had this at a friends house yesterday and it was wonderful - no camera along so no picture but I will be making it over the holidays. Be careful it is quite potent. She said the recipe was originally from Bon Appetit with a tweak or two by her.The nice thing is that you make the raspberry mixture well in advance- it may be made up to a month ahead kept in the fridge. Preparation time does not include maturing time of 3 days
My husbands Aunt Anne had given us this recipe. It was served at a wedding she attended. She was told to uses Mountain bread which is very similar to flat bread or a tortilla only square. These are very yummy and great for appetizers. They are very easy to make. Enjoy.
These comments are from their cookbook:
"At Magnolia we decided to make our cake not quite a traditional yellow cake or a traditional sponge cake, given the use of whole eggs in our recipe. We're sure you'll agree this recipe is moist, delicious and makes a beautiful layer cake or cupcakes for birthdays or any celebration. Frost with pink buttercream icing and lots of colored sprinkles as we do, and feel as though you're at your seventh birthday party all over again!"
