This great pie recipe goes back over 100 years. The recipe came from my grandmother's grandmother who was living in Charleston, South Carolina during the 1860's. Family history has it, that during the Civil War, since pecans were in short supply in the South, oatmeal was substituted for the traditional pecan pie and the results were astonishing. Now served at every family gathering since that time.

I love apples, Gala and Granny Smith are my two favorite. You can't catch them on sale very often and that's the only time I buy them. So, this pie is pretty special. It's also pretty special because it's a diabetic pie. The Splenda is interchangeable with sugar if you are making it for a sugar-tolerant person. To kick it up a notch (even for diabetics) drizzle with caramel sauce or serve a la mode! (NOTE TO MY DIABETIC FRIENDS: I'm still working on a sugar-free caramel ice cream topping.)

I found this recipe in a holiday hand-out. Not a diabetic pie, but it looked sooo good. Maybe a potluck at church kinda pie?? Who knows. Try it...Cook time is chill time.

This is the EASIEST coconut pie I have ever made. Haven't got a clue where I got the recipe, but it's for sure something you can throw together in a hour. NOTE: This makes quite a bit of filling. You may not need it all.

The Dutch Mill was a restaurant in Bluffton Indiana that was famous for it's pies. It burned down about 10 years ago, but we've still got the Sugar Cream Pie recipe to recreate at home! Sugar Cream Pie is unique, sweet, dense, and creamy ...additively yummy! The recipe is easy but there can be a "little" bit of trial and error since ovens vary. Stick with it though, because the reward is well worth it!

This is one of the easiest and most delicious quick lemon pies you'll ever eat. I first had it at my friend's, Patty, in Tucson.

    Recipe #54476

This is the Runner-Up recipe for 1986 in the San Francisco Chronicle, by Marion Cunningham. Only three ingredients go into this old-fashioned Shaker dessert: lemon slices — peel and all — sugar and eggs. The filling is more like marmalade than pie filling and may take some getting used to. Serve wedges warm — not hot — or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream.

My grandma didn't measure anything so this is as close as I could get. I never said it was a healthy recipe. It can be made without the evaporated milk and using low fat or skim milk and using margarine instead of butter but please use real vanilla and a good quality cocoa. You might have to adjust the cornstarch or cocoa depending on how thick or chocolaty you like your pies. I make 2 of these pies for every church covered dish meal and never get to bring a slice home. Oh can cook the filling in a large double boiler to avoid scorching it, it just takes longer.

Cranberries are a favorite at this house and this simple pie has HUGE cranberry taste. Creamy with both sweet and tart flavors. It's wonderful served warm with vanilla ice cream but good chilled too. I found this recipe on an e-zine list I belong too. It's our favorite pie recipe.
