The Classic French Bistro Sandwich - Croque Monsieur
    Handle

My two versions of this classic French café/bistro sandwich - oven baked for large quantities and ease.......or, the traditional frying pan/skillet method! You can always rely upon the French to add a certain "je ne sais quoi" to even the simplest food ...including the humble cheese and ham sandwich. The croque-monsieur (which becomes a croque-madame if you top it with a fried egg) is a great favourite in French cafés & bistros, and there are as many methods of crafting it as there are cafés! This one works for me. But, please be warned ... it's not for calorie-counters, the Cholesterol Police or those of a nervous disposition!!

Yummy! This recipe was adapted from one published in Relish magazine, which comes as an insert in our local newspaper. Their suggestion of adding sautéed or grilled red onion slices for variety sounds good, too.

These are a great easy to make & filling meal. I used some leftover shredded chicken & leftover rice to whip these up. Went beautifully with the chappati wraps I had in the cupboard.

    Chicken Parmigiana Jaffle
    Handle

In Australia toasted sandwiches with sealed edges are called jaffles and sandwich toasters makers, which are now electric, are called jaffle irons. These are named after the original jaffle iron, which was a long-handled hinged iron implement for toasting sandwiches in a campfire.

Jen's Ham & Cheese Toasted Sandwiches

A little different from other sandwiches as you top them with the cheese and place under a grill instead of using as part of the filling. This is a great crowd pleaser for brunch especially after Christmas when you may want to use up some of that ham. Easily put together when time permits, even the night before if kept in the fridge. Served with some fresh juice to start while they are cooking and finished off with a cinnamon teacake & hot freshly brewed coffee you have a great brunch menu for family & friends. You can also add in other ingredients to the filling if wished, such as avocado, tomatoes, onions etc. I often make this for a quick lunch to eat either on its own or with a soup in winter. For the two of us I just use 4 slices bread and "eyeball" the rest of the ingredients :)

I saw this in a magazine and thought I'd post for all the little ones & not so little ones that like nutella!!!! You can use other chocolate hazelnut spreads if you like. These make a nice change from "Fairy Bread" and are ideal for childrens parties or just for a treat.

Puff Pastry Toasted Sandwiches in Your Sandwich Maker!
    Handle

My Zaar friend Kooka suggested making a toasted sandwich without the toast ! I got curious, played around with her idea and et Voila! she told me to post the recipe. Ok, healthy.. not really... yummy... sure is! Puff pastry here in the Netherlands is a pest to use in regular large pies becuase it comes in a box of 10 small individual squares. think jig-saw pieces then you want to make a large pie, and it usually takes me less time to make and roll my own... but my small ready made squares are PERFECT for this recipe.. if you are lucky enough to be able to buy ready made puff pastry in one big piece you will need to cut it up to fit. COMFORT FOOD... the fillings are as endless as peoples' personal taste.. but things that cook quick, yes? I used three Knackworstjes but the Zaar database doesn't recognise those so Smokies (mini knackworstjes) are the closest description I can get. In Honour of Kooka's idea I dedicate this to ZWT REGION: Australia.

Great chicken salad and only 5 WW points per serving. You'd never know it was low calorie. I believe the recipe originally came from the Weight Watcher's web site. I think it is best chilled for a few hours before eating.

The Lady's Cheese Biscuits & Garlic Butter - Paula Deen
    Handle

I live in Savannah, Georgia, and have encountered these biscuits straight from The Lady & Sons restaraunt. They're incredible! At my former workplace, we had the Lady & Sons cater lunches for training seminars and these were always the first to disappear. This is from a recipe that ran in the Savannah Morning News a few years ago. The sharp cheddar is my preference, although the original recipe simply states "cheddar". If making the jumbo, ice-cream scoop biscuits, this will make about four.

An easy way to make fudge pops that kids will love. I've put the original recipe in, but feel free to use sugar free pudding or Splenda in place of the regular pudding and sugar.
