I got this recipe for a VERY yummy spread from a co-worker several years ago. I've had this as an appetizer with crackers, but they'd work wonderfully in a dinner party setting as well, served with warm rolls or French bread.
From a cookbook called "Best Loved Slow Cooker Recipes," this soup tastes very similar to French onion soup, but the cheese is mixed right in. I've had a little trouble in the past with the cheese and milk curdling, so I turn my slow cooker off and let the soup cool a little before adding. *Update Sept 22/06: Try adding a pound of smoked sausage and 2 diced potatoes for a heartier version.
From Taste of Home magazine. I haven't tried this one yet, but it looks absolutely delicious -- like having dessert for breakfast!! And it's quite simple. (like, simple enough for even ME to want to make first thing in the morning!!) The recipe calls for Cinnamon Raisin bread, but you can use whatever kind you want or have on hand, of course.
