Another Caribbean recipe! This time it's cheese balls that would be great as an appetizer or snack! (You may want to use a combination of the sharp cheese and some Gouda or Edam cheese for a more authentic Dutch Caribbean flavor!) Prep time includes time for dough to set 1 hour; cook time is estimate on how long each cheese ball cooks in oil
This was my favorite chicken when I was a child over 30 years ago. It calls for "Funya" bean curd (a fermented tofu product) which can be found at asian markets. This is a key ingredient, and well worth the search. Cook time does not include marinating time.
I got this recipe from a friend that is a gourmet plus cook - he got the recipe from Stacey. It is delicious and a little different than any I could find here on Zaar. Handle this dough like you would pie crust dough. Serve them as appetizers, with dip, with soup anyway you want but better hide them until you want to serve them because they will disappear. very quickly
I just threw this together for an appetizer and they turned out as very tasty wraps - lots of crunch and peppy with the sweet chili sauce . It can be vegetarian by leaving out the crab or shrimp- still tasty. These may also be served as a side dish or as a course with an Oriental meal. I usually make the filling early in the day and roll the wraps within an hour or two before serving keep cool if you do these ahead.
