Open the oven door and the aroma of this fresh baked breakfast bread will have the entire house clamoring into the kitchen. Moist and dense in texture, the bread includes healthy ingredients, such as oats and fresh banana, and is easy to prepare and very adaptable, accommodating your choice of chopped nuts or dried fruit in place of the cranberries. Some people say you don't even need the sugar when the bananas are so sweet. Adapted from Whole Foods.
This is a very easy mocktail and if you love ginger beer like I do, you'll enjoy this. The basic idea is one part ginger ale to one part ginger beer. Serve in a nice tall chilled glass and chill out yourself for awhile. :)
The chefs at Gourmet Alley in Gilroy California, famous for their garlic festival every year have shared some of their best recipes, via Country Living magazine(July 1987). I have tweaked this just slightly. Enjoy!
This dish is all about the tomatoes! "Heirloom" refers to certain cultivars that have been nurtured and preserved for generations, and any varity will do for this dish. The capers add a nice crispy, crunchy, savory element. Adapted from The Conscious Cook by Tall Ronnen.
Nov. 3, 2009, the cast and contestants from the NBC competition weightloss show The Biggest Loser harvested veggies from the White House Kitchen Garden with Food Initiative Coodinator Sam Kass, then went into the kitchen to "cook" it with Kass and Executive Chef Cris Comerford.
This is made at the White House by Chef Cristeta Comerford. I haven't made this yet, but have been looking for a broccoli soup that's yummy but healthy too. I have added the option of adding just a little cream if you like. Enjoy! The soup is a little thin, so I removed one of the cups of stock. Add it if you like it on the thin side.
Flax seeds can be found in some grocery stores and health food stores. They work great in pancakes, breads, and other baked goods. Three tbls. flax eggs equals 1 egg. Adapted from The Garden of Vegan cookbook.
Complement any meal with chef Spike Mendelsohn's(one of Top Chef's participants and owner of Good Stuff Eatery in Washington, D.C.) sweet potato fries, a side dish he created in celebration of the 2009 inauguration of Barack Obama. I got this from Oprah Winfrey's website.
Former Top Chef contestant and owner of Good Stuff Eatery in Washington, D.C., chef Spike Mendelsohn, shared his recipe for the Vegetarians Are People Too 'Shroom Burger(I have renamed it), a dish he created in celebration of Barack Obama's inauguration, with Oprah Winfrey. And now I can share it with you!
He likes it, he loves it, he wants some more of it! What am I talking about? Why, Tim McGraw's favorite dish, Chicken and Dumplings!
To make this recipe super easy:
If you have leftover chicken(or turkey), just start at step 4 and use chicken broth(2-2 1/2 quarts). I just added broth until the sauce looked the consistency of a nice gravy, then when reducing the sauce, ended up adding a little more.
This drink is delicious, has a slightly 'nutty' flavor and is good for improving the memory. It is especially rich in choline, one of the B vitamins that increases acetylcholine, a substance that is the message carrier of the brain. Recipe from Cherie Calbom.
