Want to make up your own Onion Soup Mix? A substitute for Corn Syrup when you've discovered you've run out and don't have time to get to the store? It's here (or, atleast, it's slowly making its way here ).
The signature sandwich from one of my favourite Canadian cities - the recipe from one of my favourite Canadian chefs, Cristine Cushing! If you don't want to go through the long process of cooking & smoking the brisket, just use the Montreal Spice Mix as a rub on a roast. Serve piled high slivers of smoked meat between 2 slices of rye bread with loads of mustard & a dill pickle on the side!
Okay, okay I know. True tiramisu uses mascarpone, but just in case your local Safeway or whatever doesn't carry it, which is often the case, this is a good substitute. I used it in Emeril's tiramisu recipe and it came out very nicely. Just thought this might help someone.
This is posted for the Asian tour. We are now in Korea! Adapted from Korean Kitchen. I made this and it is so good! This is great chopped up in a teriyaki recipe, stir fry, cooked with rice, even eaten by itself!
If you only have plain breadcrumbs on hand, and your recipe calls for Italian breadcrumbs, what's a chef to do?!? I found this recipe on the net at another site. The original recipe calls for 1 tablespoon garlic powder but I like it better using fresh garlic cloves. This is a little bit mild compared to bottled Hoisin sauce but it is a great substitute in any oriental dish or marinade. All of the ingredients are available at your grocery, except maybe the yeast extract, which I found at a health food store.
