From the fabulous Lidia Bastianich, her recipe for Beef Short Ribs Braised in Red Wine. This is wonderful Sunday dinner comfort food and is easy to prepare once you master a bit of multi-tasking, reducing the wine while browning the ribs while the mushrooms soak, etc. I think mashed potatoes are the ultimate accompaniment for this...

Lemon lovers, come on in! This is a fantastic, easy lemon chicken from Scoozi Restaurant in Chicago. Garlic, shallots and white wine accent this chicken; nice because there's not a lot to detract from the pure lemony taste. I find that there's not a ton of the sauce; if you wish to have extra to drizzle on veggies or whatever, I'd probably double the sauce ingredients. It's good with pasta or roasted potatoes and a nice green veggie.

    Recipe #112206

This is both delicious and beautiful! I like to mix up the ingredients a little just for the variety in color... pale green lettuces and apples with a pinkish peel look good with the radicchio and carrots. And the dressing is just wonderful! I also like to substitute pine nuts for the walnuts sometimes.

Recipes with cream sauces are a departure for me, but I really like this because it's not that "saucy" (it just coats the chicken and linguine) and the flavor is fabulous. It doesn't take long to prepare and it's a very satisfying dish with some salad or roasted asparagus spears. This will serve 2 for dinner with leftovers for someone's lunch the next day... ;o)

Giada De Laurentiis recently prepared this sweet comfort food on her show, "Everyday Italian." It looked so delicious I had to add it to my collection! This makes two servings, so you can share it with a special friend. ;)

A delicious Arabian honey treat, and very quick and easy to prepare. The cake is buttery-eggy, and the topping is a chewy confection of butter, sugar, honey, almonds and cinnamon; Ed compares the topping to pecan pie, but it's much more caramelized and toothsome.

An incredible cheesecake! Top this with not only chips, but crushed chocolate wafers, almonds, and the most heavenly chocolate you can find. I served this to my Dad on his birthday. He was a very happy man.

this came from Mr. Food's quick and easy diabetic cooking

A very unique and special entree; the sauce really perks up the sea bass, its acidity cuts through the richness of the fish and creates a nice "sweet heat". I like this with rice and a salad sprinkled with pine nuts.

I adapted this luscious dish from a recipe from Chicago's fabulous iSalpicon! restaurant. Most quail is semi-boneless, only some bones in the drumsticks and wings, so it's very easy to fully enjoy every delectable morsel. Plan on two birds per person. Prep time includes marinating the quail overnight.

A very pretty red, warming cocktail, but not too strong... elegant and perfect for Valentine's Day or Christmas.

    Recipe #110571

What a nice gift for someone... or for yourself. Delicious in tea, fabulous on hot buttered biscuits or French toast or vanilla ice cream... It's so easy to make and tastes absolutely decadent.

This is from a Williams-Sonoma Cookbook. Great for any occasion, birthdays, Valentine's Day or for my favorite reason, just because you want chocolate!

I don't believe I ever saw "ravioli in broth" as an appetizer until I dined in LaSalle County, IL. This is a wonderfully rich-flavored recipe, and not for the "wine-faint-of-heart". It makes an elegant beginning for a special dinner; the flavors are complex and I would suggest a simple entree to follow; perfectly grilled fish or chicken would be ideal.

Every year I pick a cake to make for Valentine's Day, this one is from Taste Of Home and is beautiful. Cake is baked in two 9 inch heart shaped pans, I found them in regular pans and disposable tin pans. My cake took longer to cook about 30 minutes. Also this is a very sweet cake. I used two cans of cherry pie filling (not all of both) and for the topping on top I tried to just get the cherries with just a little of the juice.

This is absolutely incredible!! I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as we did. This has become a very special treat at our house. One thing is for sure... it won't last very long once you make it -- it seems it gets eaten up as soon as it comes out of the oven! It comes from the kitchen at Food Network originally.

I love the almondy taste of this hot chocolate. This recipe makes one cup; just double or quadruple (or whatever) the recipe to make what you need. Also tasty with a dash of cinnamon and cloves stirred in.

The title of this recipe makes me think of lounging around amidst warm, fluffy down comforters and pillows, anticipating this tasty breakfast for two. It's prepared the night before, so it's a snap just to stick it in the oven the next morning. This recipe is originally from a bed & breakfast recipe site; I replaced the milk with plain yogurt and used a couple of slices of sourdough bread for the base. I like very sharp Cheddar cheese plus thyme and/or oregano (or even tarragon) for the herbs. You can add onion, sausage, green peppers, etc., but I like this dish the way it is! Prep time includes an overnight stay in the fridge.

    Recipe #109017

One of those old-fashioned supper club type recipes, complete with a smoky piano bar in the corner and an ashtray on every table. This recipe comes from the 1965 edition of "The Gourmet Foods Cookbook" published by the Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, Illinois. And in fact, Shrimp de Jonghe was created in Chicago in the 1920s at the De Jonghe Hotel on Monroe Street in The Loop, either by the hotel owner himself or his chef, Emil Zehr. Unfortunately, the hotel was closed in the 1930s for, yup, violations of the Prohibition Act. I've reduced a little of the butter and replaced a tablespoon of it with olive oil, but this dish is still very rich, and may be prepared as an appetizer for 4 people as well.
