This is our new family favorite sandwich! YUM!! Based on a delightful sandwich served at a local market-cafe here in the California wine country. I hope you enjoy. :)

    Recipe #413468

Hot roast beef, mature cheddar cheese, and a buttery horseradish-dijon sauce combine for this delectable baked sandwich combination that is served on soft Kaiser rolls!! A classic! Perfect for luncheons or entertaining, or packed into picnic lunches; great served warm, or at room temperature. Use as much roast beef and cheddar cheese as you like! Sandwiches are easily made up in advance and individually wrapped in foil, then refrigerated or frozen (use a freezer bag) for later use. Defrost overnight in the fridge, then bake as directed. Or, if frozen, bake at 300 F for about 1/2 hour until warm. Enjoy!

The name says it all--this sandwich is big, thick and buttery, with a slight kick from the horseradish! Very quick and easy to prepare, makes a yummy lunch or simple dinner. Serve warm, with a pickle spear and chips, add a cup of soup or side salad for a more substantial meal. A side of Avocado Horseradish Spread recipe #284084 #284084 makes a tasty dipping sauce. May use sliced oven roasted or deli roast beef, or my Shredded Beef (Crock Pot) recipe #269126 #269126, pile it on as thickly as you wish, and I hope you enjoy!

    Recipe #283972

These dainty finger sandwiches of cheese, chives and watercress are perfect for an afternoon tea party (or anytime)! Traditionally served on a 3-tier serving tray, and arranged accordingly: scones on top w/warming dome, sandwiches and savories in the middle, and sweets on the bottom. Enjoy!

    Recipe #117688

This is a nice and moist chocolatey cake, nicely spiced and we like the addition of walnuts. You can dress it up with a dusting of powdered sugar, if you like. Recipe is from my sis-in-law Susie; she's been making this cake since the 70s. Best made a day ahead. Makes one bundt or tube cake, or two loaves. Enjoy!

    Recipe #117894

These rich & chewy cookies are truly heavenly, a true family favorite. Hope you like them, too. Vanilla-chocolate scented batter and rich chocolate chips with a scattering of butterscotch morsels, hints of maple and coffee/mocha, plus chunks of walnuts really sets these cookies apart from the usual. ENJOY! Perfect with a cup of coffee or a glass of ice cold milk. Bet you can't eat just one! ;-) *Note: These cookies freeze really well, too. Simply place freshly baked cookies in an airtight container or double freezer bag (for best results freeze cookies the same day you bake them), and store in the freezer for up to one month.

This is an easy to prepare and delicious appetizer -or- side dish! Wonderful to bring to potlucks or for your Cinco de Mayo celebration. Recipe is from my son-in-law's mom, Martha. Enjoy!

    Recipe #117787

Holy moly this is some great guacamole! Freshness is key here--you want to use the best quality & freshest ingredients you can find for a great guacamole. Helpful Tip: The addition of white vinegar is optional--it helps retain the bright green color of your guacamole (may store in an airtight container in the fridge, for up to two days). Serve your handmade guacamole with warm tortilla chips and an ice cold beer or margarita, and your favorite Mexican meal (tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, chile rellenos). Enjoy!

This is an uncooked tomato salsa (salsa fresca) that's great to make while fresh tomatoes are in season. Stir pico de gallo into chopped/mashed avocadoes to make guacamole (see my recipe #112059), or serve as is with warm tortilla chips and Tex-Mex food (tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, chiles rellenos). From LHJ. ENJOY!

    Recipe #117811

Delicious rice! This rice can be served warm or at room temperature as a well-seasoned salad. Can easily be tripled for a large crowd. Fresh basil or parsley may be substituted for cilantro. From Chef Brendan Walsh.

Delicious, fresh tasting rice dish. The secret is to lightly brown the rice, and use fresh squeezed lemon juice. This is our family favorite Spanish Rice recipe. From my daughter. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

This is my husband's favorite rice dish! Pairs perfectly with chile-lime marinated chicken breasts (Recipe #117768), or salmon hot off the grill. Recipe is from the back of the Mahatma Jasmine Rice bag. I hope you enjoy!

Ordinary yellow mustard gives a distinctive flavor to the marinade for these beef kebabs. The heavenly smell that fills your kitchen while you make the marinade lets you know it's going to be good. Serve with assorted grilled vegetables (like cherry tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, bell pepper, and corn on the cob), and baked potatoes. Beverly is the food editor of the local paper- her father used to grill these. Recommended for Father's Day menu.

Awesome grilled chicken kebabs with pineapple chunks and veggies! This is a must try, your family will thank you!!! Quick and easy recipe with no need to marinate in advance--just assemble the kebabs and grill immediately. Or, you may assemble them in advance if you wish, then cover and refrigerate until grilling time. Makes 9 kebabs. Great served with baked potatoes and all the trimmings, or rice (see my Royal Thai Rice recipe #114887 #114887). Yum!

    Recipe #122379

This wonderful salad is served at the Steinbeck House in Salinas, California where author John Steinbeck was born. A lovely luncheon recipe! Serve on lettuce lined plates or on circles of peeled cantaloupe with lettuce leaves. From 'World Wide Recipes' cookbook.

    Recipe #178141

Delicious light summertime fare---perfect for a light luncheon or supper on the terrace! Serve this fruity chicken salad chilled with a crisp green salad, baguette, and a nice glass of iced tea or lemonade, sparkling mineral water, chenin blanc or California chardonnay.

    Recipe #175241

Especially well suited for summertime entertaining-- I like to prepare this creamy chilled seafood pasta salad in the morning, refrigerate, and serve to guests in the evening outside on the patio accompanied with a crusty baguette, butter, and a good bottle of white wine! Be sure to serve this salad well-chilled.

Cold soup is refreshing summer fare. Have a chic outdoor picnic and serve this; your guests will love it--and so will you! Created by chef Trey Foshee of George's at the Cove restaurant (in La Jolla, California). Tip: If you can't find yellow watermelon, just use red watermelon (seedless).

Wonderfully refreshing- serve it cold! Try this on a hot day served with a crusty loaf of French bread and glass of white wine, iced tea or lemonade. No cooking involved, if you use frozen cleaned and precooked shrimp. From The Collector's Cookbook Hearty Cold Dishes, Woman's Day Kitchen.
