How to clean the Yuck from your washer.
This was just posted in today's Heloise hints.I just got done using it & it got rid of all the gummed up liquid fabric softener under the agitator. Makes it smell fresh & clean too!
I couldn't believe how dirty my watch and silver jewelry were when I tried this. Yuck! This saves money and is safe for you and the environment. The solution can be very drying to your hands so consider using rubber gloves or even tweezers to handle the jewelry. This recipe is from wire-sculpture.com.
This simple project takes hardly any time at all, and the payoff is big: sweet smelling oranges to hang on the tree, place in a bowl, or basket as a centre piece, or hang in a closet, filling it with a fresh, spicy aroma. Other citrus fruits, like lemons, limes, tangerines and kumquats, can also be used.
Nothing lovelier during the holidays than to see and, more especially, SMELL a pomander. They are one more thing that makes the holidays special. Start making them now so they'll be completely dry by the time the holidays arrive. They make lovely gifts. From Barbara Randolphs 'Gifts From The Kitchen'.
Pomanders were originally metal or ivory filigree balls filled with spices fixed with ambergris, hence the name (from the French "pomme d'ambre", or apple of ambergris). Having a bowl of these fragrant oranges (or lemons) near an entryway or on a kitchen table is one of my favorite and easiest holiday decorating traditions. Prep time depends on how the size of the fruit; the smaller, the quicker it will harden and dry.
P.S. - don't eat 'em - they're just for fragrance!
This makes an excellent gift. Make sure you make some for yourself too though because it really smells wonderful. Please note, you need to use whole cloves. Ground cloves are much stronger and will definitely overwhelm the other scents. If you aren't a fan of cloves, feel free to leave them out entirely. I do sometimes.
This is straight out of the laundry room of DH's grandmother; it works too! I've also entered this under the "kid friendly" category because there was no "parent friendly" category to choose from! This spray concoction has been a godsend when getting stains out of my toddlers clothes.
We have cats and dogs and once a month I ”treat” the house using this. I use mostly lavender and rosemary oil but also like lemongrass or peppermint. They say that using lavender and rosemary it not just refreshes but it keeps away fleas and moths. I think that makes sense because I make soap that I use on our dogs and that also uses rosemary as one of the ingredients. If you have friends that like Potpourri as a gift they will also like this.Once you have made this and like it, try to buy the rosemary and lavender in bulk.
