As the leaves change to glorious rust and pumpkin and ruby reds in regions blessed with a "true autumn", the desire for something spicy to drink while watching the theatre of the changing leaves is definitely on order. This drink makes the grade, and then some.

A note here is the selection of the rum; there are many favourites, but I would advocate for Lemon Hart Dark, as being the best "mixing" rum to go with the eggnog. (yes you can do this with white tum, Rye, or even Scotch and Brandy, but I wouldn't thank you for the last two!)

I'm not normally a coffee drinker but I really like this. It works well for holiday open houses and brunches. I leave the anise out because I don't like the taste. This recipe is from Taste of Home Quick Cooking.
Wonderful beverage that can be made to use up the left over Holiday Spice Syrup from my Spiced Red Wine Punch recipe #146716. The Holiday Spice Syrup recipe makes 3 cups and can be refrigerated for up to 1 week. Recipe is originally from Eben Klemm, the supremely creative bar manager and mixologist at Pico, New York's most elegant Portuguese restaurant.
I made up this recipe because I thought the hot chocolate I usually have was a little bit bland. I recommend adding more milk if it tastes to strong to you. Your personal touch is encouraged! If you would rather have it coffee-free, go ahead! You could also use apple pie spice (haven't tried it, but it may taste good) or your favorite extracts.
This hot chocolate recipe is unlike any other. It is haunted. But do not be afraid. The little ghost in your cup only wants to share in the chocolately goodness, and he can be eaten too..hehe. This is a great recipe for Halloween. One of my favorites, just because it is so cute!
