5-Ingredient Fix Contest Entry - This is my tasty version of a popular appetizer served at a local restaurant. The crispy yet chewy "baskets" made with the shredded potatoes (hashbrowns) takes this side dish to the next level and is a family favorite.
The #1 rated deer recipe on RecipeZaar since 2005! It's deer season again, and you know what that means - a lot of 'Zaar chefs trying out THE venison recipe again or for the first time. Thanks for all the reviews.
Hands-down, this is the BEST deer meat recipe in America. Even those who don't like wild game meat will fight for a piece of this.
**I will warn you, that this creates almost a "candy tenderloin." You can see from the reviews how many people love it, but if you're looking for a gamey dish that brings out the purely meaty taste of your venison, this is not for you.
Hey you Paula Deen fans, she has a new magazine, "Cooking with Paula Deen"--this recipe is from the premier issue. It was so yummy looking, I couldn't wait to try it. I added another 15 minutes to the cooking time suggested (30-35 minutes) and It was just right, but oven temperatures vary, so check on it during the last few minutes of cooking time. I'm also going to add a few dashes of cayenne pepper next time for something hot and sweet!
Holiday weekends mean visiting with friends and family and they will all like this. I find that making it is somewhat theraputic (must be the kneading) and the finished bread is so pretty that you feel quite proud of yourself and your creation. The taste is one that brings you back for more. This bread is delicious served with honey butter, which you can easily make by beating together 1/4 cup honey and 1 stick softened butter.
Prep time given does not include 1 1/2 hrs of rising time.
