The sauce is from Wolfgang Puck's Make It Easy Cookbook. He serves an elegant dessert with meringue discs, this sauce, ice cream and whipped cream. That's just too much for us, so I simplified it, and just serve this with vanilla ice cream (our favorite is Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla). The sauce can be prepared ahead of time and heated just before serving.
This is our standard strawberry recipe. Absolutely simple, but good enough to serve with cream at the poshest of dinner parties. The sugar and lemon draws the juice out of the strawberries, resulting in lots of lovely pink 'sauce' - so do try to soak them for at least 2 hours.
(Preparation time does not include time needed to macerate the strawberries.)
I was looking for something to do with a strawberry cake mix that I had hanging around. I found these in a cookbook, Quick Fixes with Cake Mixes. As the into says "if you like cheescake or pastries with cheese filling, you'll really like these..."
This is a wonderful pie. Very different and really delicious. If you're worried about raw eggs just use pasturized eggs (I get them at Target). You wouldn't get the same flavor or melt-in-your-mouth texture using cream cheese or pudding as a substitute. Very easy and quick to put together.
