For beetroot lovers! A delicious, very low calorie, VERY low fat (0.1g!) side dish to accompany any main course. I found this recipe in Karen Meyer's 'The Artful Vegetarian' and I have adapted it slightly in posting it for the Healthy for the Holidays Challenge.

    Recipe #147044

Found this recipe on a weight loss community board somewhere. I have it saved on my computer to try over the holidays. In the meantime, I thought others would want to try it as well.

    Recipe #146882

A delicious low-fat smoothie, sweetened naturally with honey, with extra nutrition from wheat germ and sunflower seeds, and extra flavour from cinnamon. A great morning-pick-me-up! I often take some to work in a Tupperware container with a firm lid, and enjoy it as a mid-morning snack.

    Recipe #146467

A low calorie, low fat, delicious and refreshing salad with a citrus dressing which was with a recipe for orange-glazed pork cutlets. I haven't posted the pork cutlets part of the recipe (just zmail me if you want it). I found this in The Australian Women's Weekly's 'SLIM: low-fat eating for life', and I'm posting it for the Healthy for the Holidays Challenge.

    Recipe #146461

Another fabulous recipe for smoked salmon lovers from the November/December issue of 'donna hay magazine: turn simple into special'. A simple variation on tabouli, which really makes this a stand alone dish, and great therefore for take-to-work lunches. I recommend serving this with Jessica K's Pita Crisps Recipe #121546.

    Recipe #146363

A recipe for smoked salmon lovers! This is not your traditional baked-in-a-wood-oven pizza, but it's a very simple, quick to make and delicious combination of the classic ingredients which go so well with smoked salmon, served on crisp pita bread. I found the recipe this morning while at the hairdresser's, bought a copy of the magazine, and made these for lunch today. Just wonderful for a quick, light weekend lunch! The recipe I've posted here has been adapted slightly from the recipe in the November/December 2005 issue of the 'donna hay magazine'. I have also posted Donna Hay's recipe for haloumi and couscous cakes which she suggests serving with smoked salmon, so it's another recipe for smoked salmon lovers! Donna Hay is an Australian chef.

I think this recipe would work with thin chicken cutlets as well or maybe even pork.

    Recipe #146325

A fabulously healthy juice drink from Australian chef flip shelton's 'green: modern vegetarian recipes'. Commenting on aloe vera, she says that it "has been described as a natural healer because it contains many essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, proteins and enzymes" and she suggests giving youself "a dose whenever you feel low". From the instructions, this is clearly intended to be made using a juicer, but you could use a blender. You would then get the whole of the cucumber and apple, not just the juice. If doing this, obviously remove the apple core!

    Recipe #146074

A delicious low fat potato dish which I found in the November 2005 issue of the 'Australian Good Taste' magazine, as an accompaniment to Recipe #145704. I have posted both recipes for the post-ZWT Healthy for the Holidays Challenge.

    Recipe #145705

Australian chef flip shelton suggests spicing up a pot of tea "by adding 1-2 teaspoons of this blend with the tea leaves". The tea can be drunk black or white. From her fabulous book 'green: modern vegetarian recipes'. I have also posted her Spiced Coffee recipe. Both have been posted for the post-ZWT Healthy for the Holidays Challenge. Drunk without milk, this tea is 14 calories and has 0.5g fat. This Spiced Tea and the Spiced Coffee are both great low fat choices!

    Recipe #145678

A deliciously spiced coffee which enhances the coffee drinking experience, and is therefore particularly welcome when you're aiming to reduce the calories in your daily diet. Because it has no milk, it has NO fat and, at 17 calories, it is super-low in calories. Compare that with a creamy cappuccino! Adapted from Australian chef flip shelton's 'green: modern vegetarian recipes', and posted for the post-ZWT Healthy for the Holidays Challenge! When I make this next time, I'm going to try it without the fennel seeds and with a tablespoon of orange juice.

    Recipe #145671

A healthy and delicious juice - a great way to start the day! - from Australian chef flip shelton's 'green: modern vegetarian recipes'. As flip says of this juice "This has a pretty orange colour, a delicate floral scent and a great texture".

    Recipe #145669

A healthy and refreshing drink adapted from Murdoch Books' 'whizz it'. If you want a redder look, omit the kiwi fruit. I added that because I love the flavour of kiwi fruit. If omitting the kiwi fruit, also reduce the orange juice to 21/2 cups.

    Recipe #145534

I felt creative one night and threw a little of this and that in a pan and came up with this really yummy recipe. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do! PLEASE let me know if you try this and what you think! 6 WW points plus

    Recipe #145355

I have a meat and potatoes guy who could live on potatoes and gravy. This is how I make it healthier and lower in fat!

    Recipe #145147

A simple recipe which I found in the June 2002 issue of the 'Australian Good Taste' magazine, in a bring-a-dish for eight menu plan. Obviously, the recipe can be scaled down. The recipe specifies that it can be made "up to an hour before serving", but I cannot see why it couldn't be made further ahead than that. When I make this, I'll be adding chopped onions and garlic in step two, and some lemon juice and dried thyme, probably when adding the chickpeas in step three.

    Recipe #144762

When you absolutely must have dessert, but you're counting calories and fat grams, here's a way to meet your goal and have a sweet too.

    Recipe #144757

Yummy, healthy - low calorie, low fat - biscuits which are easy to make and just fabulous on a cheese board, together with Toffee Grapes Recipe #144733. These biscuits can be kept in an airtight container for up to 4 weeks. I found this recipe in the November 2005 issue of the 'Australian Good Taste' magazine. The preparation and cooking times below do not include the 30 minutes resting time and the 15 minutes cooling time.

    Recipe #144738

Romantic little recipe for two that wont leave you too full to flirt! Yummy garlic and wine sauce coat the shrimp and pasta. A salad and some crusty fresh bread would be very nice with this and a nice chablis or chardonnay wouldn't hurt either! I came up with this after totally revamping a recipe found on healthycookingrecipes.com. "PLEASE adjust the seasonings to make it perfect for you and DO let me know how you change it up." Enjoy!

Easy and delicious kielbasa and bean soup from my favorite magazine Cooking Light. Serve it with crusty bread or garlic toast for satisfying meal.
