    Gail's Recipe Swap

Of all the forums on the internet, I've spent the most time on Gail's Recipe Swap, at Epicurious. I posted there from 1995 (yes, there really WAS an internet at that time) as "Julie R - WA" until 2005 or 06. I've tried to identify all the recipes in my collection which came from Gail's since then. Although Gail's is no longer, I owe a lot of my favorite recipes to the great folks there... it was a wonderful place! If you have recipes from Gail's, let me know and I'll add them to the cookbook.

This is based on the recipe by Bob Blumer from the "Surreal Gourmet Bites" cookbook. This simple caramelization method transforms this much maligned veggie into a knock-your-socks-off side dish or sweet snack that you won't be able to get enough of!

    Recipe #115153

This recipe for a delicious and easy rice side dish came from Michael at Gail’s Recipe Swap, and I’ve fiddled with it a little. Although I don’t get to eat rice often, this one looks so tasty I have to put it here for safe keeping when I get to splurge! :)

    Recipe #115503

Very simple, and very tasty! I found a recipe how to make this at home after tasting a version in a Seattle restaurant.

    Recipe #27808

This stuff is addicting!! I serve salsa with broken pieces of bread or crackers. You may toss it with pasta or put on a salad, the possibilities are endless. I'm often asked to make it for parties because most people just adore this dip. -ADDED: I just recently discovered that this is Michael Chiarello's recipe & here all this time I thought my mother in law was a genius for coming up with this wonderful recipe.

    Recipe #14361

Indulge yourself. You know you want to. ;) This is a wonderfully rich tetrazzini that your family will ask for again and again.

    Recipe #44925

Topped with gooey caramel and crunchy pecans, this apple bread is a hit with kids and adults alike!

    Recipe #30424

Remember the layered taco dip everybody loves? Well, here's a Mediterranean version for you! Very, very tasty! Prep time includes chilling. This dip took a bit of work... I first posted it at Gail's way back in the 90s, I think.

    Recipe #47041

This has been a real hit gatherings! I often make a double batch.

    Recipe #27186

My husband loves cooking with lime, and here's a recipe we've recently been experimenting with - very tasty! :)

    Recipe #29130

Zingy, tasty, chicken breasts! These are soooooooo darn good... :)

    Recipe #27740

    Recipe #27470

    Recipe #116898

A versatile and tasty veggie salad to help cool those hot summer days! Prep time is chilling time in the fridge.

    Recipe #68503

My favorite pork tenderloin recipe! "Glossy and burgundy-colored, this traditional English sweet-and-sour sauce turns a scrap of pork into an elegant entree."

    Recipe #27927

Rich, savory scalloped potatoes that you'll want to make again and again! Careful, though - they're far from lowfat. :) Based on a recipe from Food and Wine Magazine.

    Recipe #105027

Moyn at Gail's says of these sweets: "These are scrumptious! Don't be fooled that the recipe and cleanup are so easy."

    Recipe #114201

My favorite for grilling all year long, this marinade is a definite winner!

    Recipe #27218

Carmelizing isn't just for onions! This is a wonderfully delicious way of making salmon extra-special. Prep time includes marination.

    Recipe #35715

I’ve made this recipe often in the past, and while putting together my LJ recipe entry list (see http://www.julesong.com/cook/LJentry-recipes.htm ) I discovered it again! I adapted it to our tastes. It was one of our favorites, is perfect for romantic dinners, and it’s absolutely delicious! Although it's easy to make, it takes a bit of time but is worth every minute. In my Sunday, February 10th, 2002 LJ entry, and her original was posted by KC at Gail’s Recipe Swap. Thanks, KC! She said “I always add lots of extra olives and dates. They taste wonderful. I have even caught friends in the kitchen looking through the pan for more olives and dates.”

    Recipe #246912

The sauce this dish makes is delicious!

    Recipe #27539
