These are so easy to make and are so good for you! Lentil sprouts contain Vitamins: A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, B15, B17, C, K, choline, folic acid, inositol, PABA
Minerals: boron, calcium, chlorine, copper, iron, magnesium, molybdenum, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium, sulphur, zinc
The amounts are loosely given. I love them over salads, but are good snacks on their own. Cook time is sprouting time.
This was always my favourite "toy" when I was growing up. You can make it into shapes of all sorts of things. I had so much fun, tint it whatever colour you like. I usually had pink as it was my favourite colour.
Once you know how to plug your dehydrator in, you're limited only by your imagination regarding how many different "recipes" you can come up with for fruit leather. These simple snacks are healthy and often more convenient to eat than fresh fruit. I ziplock a batch and take it with me. Either pureed apples or applesauce makes a great inexpensive texturizer with a rather mild flavor, so I often flesh out whatever the main fruit flavor is with it. This time it's strawberries! (My friend Freya arrived on my doorstep last weekend with a HUUUUGE box of the most beautiful berries I've ever seen, so rather than to lose the last of them to age, I've gone the dehydrating route.)
After trial and error this composite of spices seem to suit most of my family members. Some want it spicy hot, some can't abide any spices. I wouldn't want any fewer spices than these few basic ones. The croutons should be watched closely while cooking as they will burn quickly.
Use this spray on plants that are being attacked by caterpillars and other chewing pests. Caterpillars would rather starve than eat leaves sprayed with this. this also has been used by some as a possum repellent. Finally! I found out how to make a wonderful bleu cheese dressing at home. I've tried so many, with all kinds of ingredients, but none of them came out wonderful until this one! And it's so simple, anyone can make it and feel like a real gor-may type chef! I usually use light (not the non-fat)mayo and sour cream and it's incredibly rich.
From the Veganomicon. This recipe is faster to pull together than my trusty Candle Cafe homemade seitan. Using Vital Wheat Gluten instead of regular flour allows you to skip the rinsing out the starch step. I still make a huge batch of this at a time and freeze it to use during the week.
From "Good Eats," episode "Flat Is Beautiful: Going Crackers." If you can't find graham flour, sift together 2/3 c all-purpose flour, 1/3 c coarse-ground wheat bran and 1 1/2 tsp wheat germ. Avoid baking powder with aluminum; it will make your crackers taste metallic.
This is great over a nice fresh green salad. It's easy to put together and the ingredients are ones that you would usually have on hand. We don't like a lot of dressing so this would serve 4 for us. If you like more, this may serve 2. Enjoy!
This is the tastiest red enchilada sauce I have ever had! I could literally just eat it with a spoon. The secret is cocoa powder, do not miss that step! I found it on the Texas Monthly cooking forum. A lot of times I double the recipe since its so good. Serve it over enchiladas, burritos, or grab a straw! Its scrumptious!!
This is such a great sauce. It's delicious on it's own and it's a great base if you want to get more complex and add ingredients such as a bit of mexican chocolate-(like ibarra), or peanut butter, or chipotles, or whatever tickles your southwest fancy at the moment.
I like to use a cast iron skillet for this recipe. Some people like to toast their chiles first, in which the cast iron will again come in handy, but if you do, be careful as they scorch easily.
Note: The prep time is for the blender method for processing the chiles, because it doesn't take as long. If you decide to scrape the pulp it will take you longer.
This weed killer is non-discriminatory....it kills what it is sprayed on, so be careful where you spray it. The good thing about this is that it is easy to make and very economical. Make sure you label it and store it out of the hands of inquisitive children. If you spray this multiple times in the same spot, nothing will grow there for a very long time....perfect for cracks in your driveway and in sidewalks.
