This cake was served at my nephew's pig picking after his wedding and it was delicious. You could hear everyone asking for the recipe! It is a bit different than the others posted. The original recipe calls for milnot instead of evaporated milk, but Zaar does not recognize milnot. The person that gave me the recipe said milnot may not be available in our area and evaporated milk could be substituted. I made this cake today for my cousin, who has broken her wrist. Needless to say, she and her boyfriend were delighted and loved it. It was so easy to make. It came out moist and delicious. If you prepare this, I hope you enjoy it!

This recipe was served at the McLeod Family Reunion in Florida, circa 1997. They said they'd been making them for years and no one knew where the recipe originally came from. Easy to do and just delicious!

    Recipe #134779

This is THE original recipe from Joyce Hardcastle who won the Ultimate Nanaimo Bar Recipe contest in 1986; no variations, just the exact ingredients she used An offset spatula comes in handy for this. These are very rich and sweet, one small bar is enough! If you don't have Birds Eye custard powder it totally changes the taste and I wouldn't make it if there was non in the kitchen. Why make the original if you do not use the original recipe. A tin of this product lasts forever and is a nice topping for stale cakes or a nice warm bowl of real comfort food! Someone mentioned the crust was greasy....If the crust ingredients are added in order the crust has never been greasy. Or, add 1/4 cup extra graham cracker crumbs. The ratio of butter to the other ingredients isn't a lot. If you omit any crust ingredient and use the same amount of butter called for in the recipe it won't turn out the way it should. This is one recipe that should never be altered!

I remember my mom making these in my high school days. Later I got the recipe, and now make them for my family. Sometimes I add a touch of nutmeg in my buttermilk too. Adds another element of flavour.

I do not know where the "bee-sting" comes from, but this is a very popular cake in local home industries: those little shops filled with the specialties of good home cooks. This cake takes a little time, but it is worth it: it is cut into thin layers, which is spread with a custard filling. It's a delectable cake! Prep time is a guess! Please note that the custard filling can be made ahead, even the day before, and refrigerated. This cuts down on preparation time.

As far as I recall this cake was published by Royal Baking Powder way back in the 50's. My mother made it regularly and it was our favourite cake. Do not substitute and do not cut down on the spices: rather choose another recipe! The spices are what makes this cake just that bit extra special! I lost the recipe, and recently found it again in a very old recipe book! I'm posting this as it was written, except I tried to make the directions a little clearer.

These are the best ginger cookies I've had in along time. The balance of spices is perfect. From BH&G's. I used just a dash of pepper. The time doesn't include freezing time.
