This is my Mom's recipe It's my favorite "dessert" type salad and we have it at every holiday dinner. (I put the chill time in the cook time category.)

    Recipe #43183

This is a delicious tart that's great for celebrating the USA such as the 4th of July, Memorial day, Veterans day, Presidents day, Election day, etc. You could opt to use puff pastry sheets for a speedier version.

Throw in whatever vegetables and dried pulses you have to hand! Then just cook until tender. This is filling and tasty, and easy to throw together.

My mom has been making this simple and delicious dessert for years. You can easily make this for other holidays by using different colored gelatins (e.g. try black cherry and orange for Halloween). IMPORTANT: Make sure that the bottom two layers are chilled long enough to become firm and that the top layer is cool before pouring in step 4 or the top layer will go under the cream cheese layer and not make the pretty layered dessert that you want.

Patriotic cupcakes that can be used for any occasion. You can always substitute your own recipe for white cake and white frosting. In regards to the comment below, I went back to the original recipe to check and it does call for 2 tablespoons of batter per color -- I have never had any problems and I actually get 12 cupcakes out of this recipe. I use scant tablespoons. If anyone is worried, try it with teaspoons instead of tablespoons or even 1 tablespoon of the batters per cupcake.

This drink was in a Family Fun magazine a few years ago. When poured carefully, this makes a red, white and blue drink for any star-spangled occasion. It separates by using the drink with the highest sugar content on the bottom, and the least on top.

This is a beautiful dish and gets lots of ohhs and ahhs at gatherings.

I made this up off the top of my head for Independence Day, but it could be used as a light refreshing summer dessert. Not exactly nutritious, but light cream cheese and skim milk make it not too unhealthy. It's very nice with a cold glass of milk, I'm sure it'd be delicious with other fruits, but I recommend using fresh over frozen!

Not sure why these are called what they are - I have no clue where Apple's Restaurant is! lol A friend of mine used to make these ALL the time and send them to me in college (I would literally beg for them)...they are the most scrumptious cookies EVER!!

    Recipe #304282

A recipe from the days when only men had the right to vote. Election cake was traditionally served on Election Day, which was also Muster Day in New England. Muster Day was held twice a year, in accordance with the law, providing the spectacle of the community's militia on parade in full uniform. Everyone turned out to see the parade followed by the sham battle in "defense" of the hill. From the US Regional Cookbook, Chicago Culinary Arts Institute, 1947. Overnight rising not included in preparation time.

My mother made this for me instead of a cake on my birthday since I was born on George Washingtons birthday. It has always been a hit with my family.

    Recipe #229478

This is really a wonderful cake. It’s quite sweet but otherwise nearly perfect. Plain as it is, it’s too good for a frosting or anything more than maybe a little ice cream, or some butter and jam on a slice that is toasted under a broiler. Originally this called for a 1/2 teaspoon each of vanilla and almond extracts, but I prefer it with only vanilla. Other flavors may be used, too. To make a lemon pound cake, eliminate the vanilla and use 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and the grated zest of 1 lemon.

According to the "New York Cookbook", this cake was served on the occasion of British Evacuation Day on Nov. 25, 1783, at the Fraunces Tavern, in what is now known in Manhattan as the South Street Seaport area. George Washington was there, and this cake was named in his honour. I have not made this cake (although I have made similar), but am putting it up here as I seek out "american" and "new york" recipes in honour of the first anniversary of the September 11 tragedy.

This'll put hair on our chests! Check out all the liquor in this! I think the combination is inspired...

This recipe is from the Cherry Marketing Institute. Since I love jello salads and I love cherries, it was absolutely made for me.

I make this classic Betty Crocker recipe every President's Day for my family. I know. George Washington didn't chop down a cherry tree, but I cannot tell a lie. This recipe is just the thing to warm you on a cold winter night. It is especially nice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting into it.

    Recipe #288111

This is good for dinner or brunch. Note: It's Libby's Corn Beef and NOT corn beef hash that you buy.

    Recipe #94867

This is one of President Regan's favorite dishes, presented by Nancy Reagan.
