I love the molasses. It gives such a rich flavor. I orriginally had 10 hours on here for cooking time, But recently changed it to 6 due to over whelming reports that 10 hours was too long for most folks.
From the "Fix it and Forget It" cookbook of crockpot recipes. Turns out with little effort. We enjoy it served over rice, with a salad on the side.
I also use jarred ground ginger and jarred minced garlic--comes out just as well.
I often double the sauce ingredients that go on top of the chicken--if you like it with more sauce, I suggest you do this. I also use low-sodium soy sauce, otherwise it will be really salty.
Don't be afraid of all the garlic in this! It gets really mild from the long cooking process and gives the meat a wonderful flavor. This is a favorite for me, and I hope it will be for you, too. Different brands of beer will give you different amounts of sweetness ranging from bitter to malty (common beer characters). Try going with less sugar until you know how your beer will taste (as most of them add some amount of sweetness regardless).
Tender, fall-off-the-bone chicken! Skip the overnight refrigeration if you are in a hurry. For variety, eliminate the onion and substitute a quartered lemon or two, stuffed into the chicken cavity. Chef Shapeweaver had a good suggestion: Use Fajita Seasoning Mix #28011 as another variation. Thanks! The standard size slow cookers are a bit too small and a whole chicken won't fit. You'll need a 6-quart slow cooker for this recipe.
Amazing flavor, and so simple! No salt needed here. In fact, you may wish to use half the ranch dressing mix to cut back on the saltiness. Found this Crock-Pot pot roast recipe on of a website called www.recipegoldmine.com. It's all the rage there, so I thought I'd try it.
