    Chips, Dips & Salsas

My motto is "Everything can be dipped in something". Well, it's not really my motto, but it's true. Well, maybe it's not true, but I needed to put SOMEthing here...

This should be called Mum's quick pickled cucumber and onion, as this is what she made EVERY Sunday afternoon for tea-time! We always had this alongside fresh bread and butter, boiled eggs, cold cuts of meat, fruit cake, scones, sometimes a tin of red salmon and always a pot of tea! Wonderful memories, and an easy and tasty pickle for tea-time food. This is also wonderful with picnic food, smoked salmon or an assorted cheese board.

Whitby and Scarborough on the North Yorkshire coast of England were the places of inspiration for me with this recipe, they specialise in locally caught fish, perfect for this iconic English dish. Whereas fish and chips are usually only accompanied by salt and vinegar (Malt vinegar please!) when eaten out of newspaper, when eaten in a Fish and Chip Cafe or Restaurant, you are always served this tartar sauce with your meal, tangy and wonderful with the fish especially and a squeeze of lemon. If I close my eyes I can almost imagine the sun on my face and the salty smell in the air, with seagulls wheeling around above, and the smell of that special supper or lunch to follow, after exploring the little cobbled streets. This is a bit of a cheats version as it uses ready made mayonnaise; however, if you do make your own, then please use your own home-made mayo for this recipe, as I often do. Now all you need is a sun hat, a deck chair and plenty of time to do nothing before enjoying your fish supper!

    Recipe #360153

I make this as an appetizer for dinner parties all the time. It's delicious and easy.

    Recipe #212129

Based on a recipe by Vegancoach.com. These are crunchy and delicious.

    Recipe #423302

If you love semi dried tomatoes, you should enjoy this! Originally came from a magazine, but I tweeked it to my own tastes. Please use "real" mayonnaise, the other types make it too sweet. This dip can be served with just about anything & is also great as a sandwich spread. Cook time refers to refrigeration.

    Recipe #80364

This is from the 12 Best Foods Cookbook by Dana Jacobi. Sounds like a nice change-up from my usual guacamole!

Here's a refreshing change to basil based pesto!

    Recipe #53681

This is a wonderful twist on pesto. Sometimes the basil version gets old and you want to impress everyone at the dinner table or potluck with a tasty new version.

I love buffalo wings, but not all the deep frying that is involved. I was watching "Good Eats" one day and Alton Brown's fool proof method to delicious buffalo wings was discovered! I did make a few adjustments to this recipe that helped me out... but stayed true to the original for the most part. This method may be a little time consuming, but the end result of crispy, fall of the bone, tender wings is well worth it. The cook time includes the 1 hour in which the wings rest/cool in the refrigerator before baking.

    Recipe #284561

I first tried this buffalo chicken wing dip at my neighbor's picnic. A friend of theirs brought it and we munched on it all night til it was gone! I love this recipe for picnics, potlucks and tailgate parties. It's a much less messy way of enjoying chicken wings. My oldest son loves it. You can make it as spicy hot as you want...or leave it mild. It's best served warm, but you can also eat it cool.

    Recipe #116266

I love this and I'll be your best friend if you can make this for me when the chips are low:) Preparation time does not include refrigeration time.

    Recipe #57441

Nice creamy guacamole, with a nice bit of tang.

    Recipe #10529

This is my own creation on garlic bread because I was tired of recipe's that had too much butter on them and were not quite as healthy. With the seasonings and Parmesan cheese you don't even miss the butter and in fact, I have people rave about this bread all the time! In a pinch I will use the Pepperidge farm "Hot N Crusty Bread" but prefer to get straight from a bakery fresh bread either French baguette or a Rustic Italian.

This Mexican-inspired hummus is great when spread in wraps too. Make sure to drain the black beans very well, otherwise the hummus may be too thin. Prep time = cook time. From Whole Food's Market website.

    Recipe #349674

Middle Eastern style spread for Pita bread. This recipe is very tasty and easy to make. This is a very popular dish in this region. The base is usually Chickpeas and Tahini, but the flavor added to the base vary widely from one chef to the next. Tahini is a sesame paste, you can usually find it in the Mediterranean section of your grocery store.

This is almost an instant dip. It takes longer to gather the ingredients than it does to prepare. It is awesome with fresh veggies.

    Recipe #72947

This is fantastic on grilled burgers, and also can be served as a dip for crackers or potato chips, make as spicy as you like by adjusting the Tabasco sauce
