My mom made this cake all the time when I was growing up. Somehow the cookbook was lost, but I recently found a copy of the 1967 Southern Living Dessert Cookbook. This is actually called the Five-Minute Chocolate Cake and Instant Fudge Frosting. The beauty of this cake, besides how delicious it is, is that you only need one saucepan for the cake and one bowl for the frosting. If you don't have the sour milk called for in the recipe just use regular milk and add 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar.
I got this recipe from a late 1980s Good Housekeeping at that time I wasn't a fan of Carrot Cake (if it wasn't chocolate, I wasn't interested), but I had close friend who wanted carrot cake for his birthday and I made this it was a huge hit and I even enjoyed it.

Delicate chocolate curls to garnish desserts, or to decorate cakes. Method found in an old issue of Good Housekeeping magazine. This recipe should provide enough curls to entirely cover a 2-layer cake. Adjust as necessary for desired amount of curls. ***NOTE***After submitting this recipe, I was informed that single ingredient recipes are not approved for this site. Therefore, the toothpick was added to the ingredient list. This toothpick is only used as a tool to lift the curls, as the heat of your hands will melt the delicate chocolate. The curls will not stand up to being punctured by the toothpick. They are adhered to the cake using the fresh frosting as glue.
I adopted this recipe. I had prepared it for a holiday function prior to the adoption. The comments from my original review stated, "This dense, rich chocolate cake is intensely moist. It baked perfectly and made a lovely layer cake. I will be using this recipe again for chocolate cake needs." The cake in my photo has Recipe #44126, between the layers, and is frosted with Recipe #31809 before being covered with my Recipe #105466. It was a huge hit, and I have made this cake many, many times since.
An awesome filling from a TOH recipe for "Cream Cake Dessert" by Peggy Stott. The cake wasn't anything special, but the cream is incredible! She suggests filling a yellow cake with it for a potluck, instead of icing it. Cooking time includes cooling.
