Alton Brown had a great episode on toast, and part of it featured French Toast*. This is our favorite french toast!
For a healthier alternative, replace some of the butter with olive oil. You could also use whole milk in place of the half-and-half, though Alton would not approve.
This recipe is originally from Fix, Freeze Feast although it may have been altered slightly. I usually make 6 at a time and freeze for my OAMC club. Perfect for brunch with maple syrup. I usually serve with a quiche for a complete meal. I sometimes use less cream cheese depending on who's going to be eating it. You can substitute 1 cup fresh blueberries for the pie filling but recipe won't be as moist. Recipe may be doubled and prepared in a 9x12 pan if desired.
After many years of yearning for the Pancakes I enjoyed as a youth at the local diner that was demolished decades ago to make way for a fast food joint and an adult mart, I set out to try or create pancake recipes until I found the right combination of the most basic ingredients. That silvered car that was a sliver of my youth can be your kitchen... sans the surly waitress with the Marlboro hanging from her lips.
Comfort food at it's best, this is a family favorite that goes back years! --- Jimmy Dean has a wonderful bulk sausage roll that will work great for this recipe, you may adjust the pepper flakes to suit heat level, my family likes extreme heat so I use 2 heaping teaspoons or you may use spicy sausage meat --- serve this over biscuits, I also like to serve it over mashed potatoes or fries :)
This is just so simple and versatile. You can put anything in it you like.
Make more to go with it or not. DH and I like it just this way because it can be filling depending on what you put in it.
Seasonings are to your taste. I change them all the time depending on what I add to these. The more servings you need, you can add extra of any of the ingredients. This is also a budget stretcher.

If you use meat, be sure to precook it first and drain.
Let them have French Toast! Kids and grown ups love these. In my house it's a sunday morning staple! You will also need butter flavored cooking spray and warmed sugar free syrup or sugar free fruit topping.
This is a great camping or campfire recipe. I also make this at home as I had this breakfast at an old time family run restaurant. I couldn't get the recipe but this tastes close and DH said it is great. You can sub in ingredients that you normally would use or follow the recipe. I like the versatility. I have made it several ways now so will list some varied ingredients at the end.
This is an easy recipe to make into a 1 person or 10 person recipe. I imagine it could also be made larger but I have yet to do more than 10 guests for breakfast since making this.
This one was given to me by a girlfriend and it was yummy (we had regular size). Still have to make it myself. I have included cooking the bacon in the cooking time. UPDATE quizzed the girlfriend, she gave the recipe as is not as she does - so o'kay the difference is she used 6 slices of short rindless bacon (which is basically just the bacon meat only - no fat), therefore yes you would need the oil, she felt that way was healthier than the bacon fat.
A great healthy alternative to traditional blueberry pancakes. I found this recipe on the Biggest Loser Club. It works well with sugar free, low-calorie syrup for a truely healthy start to your day. I served it with two strips of turkey bacon.
